First Grow Ebb & Flow Perpetual SOG The HoG

First off hello everyone. Ive been lurking for quite some time now researching as much as i can to start growing and its been fun and overwhelming at the same time. Ill keep things simple and say i was originally going to try my hand at the stinkbud system, but i recently decided i cannot set that much space aside as im an apartment dweller. So all the last weeks/months of research for that system went out the window and now im thinking at having a try at Al. B's method scaled down.

Attached are a few pics of the space im working with. Its a 5' x 4' x 8' closet with 1 door opening on the right side as you can see. I have a opening to the attic i could possibly use for venting but am gonna assume thats a last resort. Im pretty sure its vacant up there but i would rather not risk the scent accidentally traveling down into somebody elses closet in the building!

Here is a quick list of things im pretty sure are needed for this setup. I am hoping you all will add your advice and let me know what your opinions would be for this type of setup.

Flower Room:
4 2' x 2' trays
4 ???? gallon reservoirs
some type of independant moveable stands they will be on
4 water pumps
4 airstones
1 large air pump
black tubing
36 1 gallon 8x8 pots

Lighting:
400-1000 hps bulb
6" or 8" air cooled hood
ballast to match bulb wattage obviously

ducting
6" or 8" inline fan/filter combo
panda film for makeshift velcro'ed door
ph/tds/ec meter?
wall mount oscillating fan
timers for lights and pumps
co2 boost bucket
nutrients?
rockwool or stg?

the things im still up in the air about as you can see are bulb wattage which then relates to hood and fan/filter size. also which media i am still debating al b is using rockwool but i am dreading having to do all the pre soaking preparing etc. i was looking at the sure to grow media but still not sure. also cant decide on what nutes to go with. i love how AN has the packages where you can work your way up as you learn but dwamnn are they expensive. speaking of expense the budget here will be anywhere from 12 to 1500 bucks as thats what i have set aside so far. just by browsing around it seems this should be sufficient for this size grow? No matter what system i use i would def. need to have a perpetual harvest going. and this seems to be the best system ive found so far to have that. I just wish there was someway to go about it without having to have mothers like the stinkbud system.

Anyways this was a little longer post than expected for my first so ill end it there. As i said please comment and add your thoughts to help out. ill be starting to order this weekend to get things rolling here soon. Thanks ahead!

well just an update got a few supplies stocked up so far slowly but surely. veg tent. built my flood and drain modular stands, still waiting on the 2x2 trays to come in at the shop.

the only problem im having is picking out what strain to go with. i was thinking between sensi star (which attitude seems to be out of stock at the moment), white berry, or the hog. Theres just so many to choose from it gets overwhelming. I want an 8 week, mostly short plant with the main dominant cola as per sog. Am i making it too complicated or am i good to go with any mostly indica strain? Any input or advice would be appreciated. a few shxtty phone pics here.

forgot to mention going with 400 MH in the veg/clone tent and 600 hps in the flower closet.

well here are the lil babies to my first grow let me know if these look or ok or what i can be doing to improve. 24/7 400 MH have it 2 feet away. temps are usually around 80 but varies between 79 to 83. one large 16 inch fan blowing for now until i get the 4 inch inline and filter hooked up in a few days.

I put em all in water last sunday and 24 hrs later on monday they had all popped the tap root so then i put em in the 1" rockwool cubes and let em sit. a few days later they all popped up. only 1 was lost within the week not sure why just never popped out the shell once it was above ground. These pics are from monday which would make them 7 days old from sprouting.

pic 1 is DNA Genetics Rocklock which was a ufo freebie. pic 5 is Reserva Privada Cole Train another ufo. this is the one that is the funkiest of em all not sure whats wrong. This was the fastest growing one height wise but the leaves look wrinkled up kinda and has just stopped there for a few days now. Pic 4 is T.H. Seeds The Hog as well as the other ones that dont have a close up. (front 3 and back left).

I currently am using tap water which comes out of the faucet at under 100 ppms. One question i had though is i have the full line up of botanicare nutrients and was wondering if the chlorine will mess with it? (PBP G/B, L. karma, Sweet, Calmag+, clearex, H-plex) I also got a ton of free samples from the lgs which was having a special sale recently. I read not to give them nutrients during the seedlings stage but noticed that most the people saying that were soil growers. I was having trouble finding threads that used hydro seed starting so i started them on 1/4 strength Mother Plant at 7 days. I am flooding about once every 4 hours for about 15 minutes and also scooping some and pouring from top to make sure the rockwool is moist incase any roots havent quite found their way all the ways down yet.

Hey joe, looks like it can be a really nice setup. From other reviews I have heard that the Hog is good for SOG but that it sometimes needs to be the right phenotype or less the yield and smoke is subpar. In terms of bulb wattage I like the 600 watt ( apparently the most efficient) HPS bulbs which would then need at least a 4 inch inline fan. As for the water question, if it is legitimate certified organics, from my knowledge the organisms within the mix will be killed if you add water that has chlorine in it. Organic soil cannot handle chlorine water so I would assume organic nutes could not either. Ill be watching to see how this grow progesses!!!! good luck
