First grow??? Dealing with temps and humidity in a attic can I get away with these figures?

So yesterday I built an enclosure up in the attic to grow my plants more discreetly, but as it’s December and quite cold here at the minute the room temperature is sitting at about 12-13 degrees.

The enclosure I’ve made I put insulation all around it apart from the front as I’m just using bed sheets for the doors to keep light out at the minute lol.

anyway for the last 24 hrs I’ve been going up and getting figures and was just wondering whether this is going to be ok or am I gonna have pay out more money?

The temps/rh after light been left on for 12hrs over night and the enclosure sealed as much as poss are RH: 26%-30% and temps: 29c

Lights were turned off at 8am this morning and 4 hours later a quick check is showing me RH: 59% and temps of 15.9 and pretty sure after the full 12 hours that’s gonna hit outside room temperature.

So what are your guys thoughts, it’s only the 1 plant right now I’m not massively bothered about yield this time round but once I get my feminised seeds and have 3 on the go I will be.

The 15.9 degrees at night is fine. In fact it helps your flowers flower faster and mature faster. But you have a huge temp swing from lights on to lights off. A swing of more than 10*C can cause powdery mildew a good chance to develop. If you have adequate fan circulation it can help fend this off.

The 15c was after 4 hours off tho I’m pretty sure at 8pm tonight when I turn the lights on the temp will be down to about 12c plus it’s snowed here now so could be even worse, I was thinking of buying a little plug heater but I’m worried about having a heater in such a small space it’s only 2x1 foot give or take. Do you think at this time of year for me I should just grow autos so I can keep the lights on 24/0?

You can put a space heater on a cheap temperature controller (I use sonoff TH16). But I'd have it on a timer as well to only run @ lights off unless you can run a seperate power cord for it as most even little ceramic heaters eat up the amps @ the outlet and it could trip your lights. Then neither the heater nor the lights will be running. I live in Canada so trust me I know all about stressing about temperatures haha.

also yes you can run Autos. I recommend you swap out the bed sheets for something more light proof too.

I’ll definitely look into that thank you, would one of them heat mats you can put underneath the pots probably not cut it then? Lol and do you have any recommendations? Light proof isn’t really an issue tbh the bed sheets keep the heat in more than anything as it’s pitch black up there anyway. But I guess if I make it more light proof it’ll also keep the heat in better too yeah I can imagine Canada been difficult to keep up with the cold, I’m uk so I’m guessing spring time is gonna be perfect temps up there for me to do normal seeds.

I feel like you're definitely going to run into a lot of problems and once the warm weather comes you'll never be able to control the heat.

Get that $10 200 watt walmart heater. Put fire alarm up there if you don't have one just in case. Walmart got $4 alarms.

There’s actually a pipe in the attic that is attached to nothing and runs up into the roof outside, I have no idea what it is there for but if that is what I think it is if I attached that up to my grow space and put a small fan in it to extract the air out would that lower the temperature in the hotter months?

I don’t have Walmart in my country but tbh I wouldn’t want to risk putting anything that could possibly set a fire in the small space I have the heater would be a maximum of 6’’ away from something. Looks like I’ll have to make a bigger grow space to do that

That is you shit pipe do not tie into that you don't want to back up toxic gas into your house and end up dead.
