First grow and I'm looking for any input

Hi everyone! I've been reading as much as I can on these forums and it has been a great help. I'll give you guys the run down from the beginning and see what you think.

I ordered seeds from Gorilla cannabis seeds bank and bought 1x Double Berry fem and 6x Candy Kush fem auto. I have a 32"x32"x72" tent, iPower 600w HPS/MH with wing hood, 6" duct fan, 8" oscillating fan, carbon filter, miracle grow potting soil.

I only wanted to try growing one plant first to see how it went. It would be real shitty if I started all 7 and killed all 7. Pus I don't need that much at once anyway. I started germinating the Double Berry fem in the potting soil in a solo cup. It took 4 days for it to break ground. When it broke ground I put it under a 32w LEd grow light (cheap one) and 2x 23w CFL inside the tent. I have been giving it a little water every 2 days. On the 4th day I cut away the solo cup and placed the plant in a 5gal bucket. I put a few holes in the bottom and gave it about a half gallon of water. BTW the water is just tap water PH to 6.8. I also put it under the 600w MH @ 50%. The light is roughtly 18-20" away. Temp is 82f and humidity is 53%. Today this plant is exactly 1 week old from the day it broke ground. I think she looks to be doing well but I'm sure some thing could be improved on. I'd like any and all input and appreciate your help. IMG_20160605_150728.jpg IMG_20160605_150720.jpg

Welcome to RIU, and the wonderful world of cultivating the world's most misunderstood and feared medicines!!!

The only 'advice' I can give you or anyone is to read and learn and then apply what you have read and learned to your garden and you cannot fail. Anyways, remember the search tool is your friend...Lots of folks here willing to help a new farmer get up and growing. But at the end of the day your grow will be only as good as the knowledge and work you put into it.

It is always great to ask questions but do not take anyone's advice or opinions and follow blindly. And remember anyone may have a well-known member status…but that means they have posted and responded to many threads and does not always mean well-educated growerz. Do your own research, you will be much happier knowing you have done it for yourself and by yourself. The first buzz you get from your own budz...is by far the BEST high you will ever have!

Do a search using your current question as the keyword(s) and ZOOOM!! Like Wonka's Great Glass Elevator…off you go to tons of threads answering all your questions. Read all the Newbie Central stickies and learn…

Soaking up all that information and sifting through it, is going to take time. You will likely finish your first grow by then. Viola! grow complete and education well under way.

There are 2 issues that you may want to think about. First, that is a lot of light and heat for a tent that size. IMHO you will be much better of with an air-cooled reflector and an in line fan.

2nd MG does grow cannabis...but it can be misleading. It is not very cannabis friendly...in that it has time released water activated nute ballz. Watering can be difficult especially at seedling stage because every time you water you also feed. I am a bit concerned that you have them in 5 gallons of MG and have given a 1/2 gallon of water. keep a close eye for nute burn and high nitrogen and you may want to get some dolomite lime to dress the soil with and a bit of cal/mag never hurts to have around if it is needed.

Thank you both for the replies. $bkbbudz$ you think my light might be too much? I'm currently only running it at 50% and have been monitoring temps at plant level. I'd like to turn her up to 100% but as you said I'd probably need to get an air cooled hood. As for the soil the plant is in, I didn't realize it had time release nutes. That's my bad. I just read that it would work for cannabis plants but wasn't the greatest. I want to try the perlite/vermiculite mix on my next grow. I read that it works really well. I'll keep an eye on the plant as you said for nute burn and see what happens.

However long it takes I guess. I'd like to try main-lining or SCROG. I'm not sure how much time either of those methods will need. I'd like to achieve a pretty decent yield from this single plant. Is main-lining pretty achievable for a first time grower?

Anything is achievable buddy,

Just how much effort you want to put into it.

Good luck , happy growing.

My plant has grown quite a lot since the last update. I was just wondering when it is considered to have entered the vegetative stage? It is almost 3 weeks now since it first broke through the soil.

Hey bud,

The seedling stage lasts from 1-4 weeks.
Unless the plant has been put in flower ( 12/12 light cycle) it is currently a seedling in its vegatative stage.

You can sex the plant after it has come to sexual maturity, about 6-8 weeks vegging from seed. When preflowers appear at the nodes, you can sex the plant if the seed wasn't feminised.

Looking really healthy, good job so far!

Would it be wise to switch cycle to 12/12 immediately after sexing plant if you wanted to?

All depends on what height you would like the plant to be when it's finished flowering.

What if any training techniques you will be implementing to make sure that your lighting provides the most coverage of your plant.

If your wanted to "main line" like mermalion, you would have a few weeks of Veging for sure.

I prefer Sea of Green.
I flower straight out of my clone box.
No veg at all.

Up to your own personal preference and grow technique.

A million way to grow the same plant.

Done properly, it all turns to Bud.
Enjoy the smoke!

Yeah I bought that meter thinking it would be nice. I quickly realized it was junk. I haven't used it for anything. Put it in the pot when I first got it and just never took it out lol. Thanks for watching out though

Hey guys just wanted to give an update on the progress. This plant (Double Berry) will be 4 weeks old (from the time it broke soil) on Sunday. I have topped it and began LST. Both of those were done this past Sunday. I just watered it and used a new watering can... it came out sooner than expected and I got it on the leaves.... hope it won't hurt anything. Anyway let me know what you think. Thanks

I forgot to mention that I used the top I cut to make a clone. Dipped it in rooting hormone powder and into a Dixie cup it went. It's not dead looking yet so hopefully it's taking root. I do want to buy another tent and use one for veg. and one for flower. I bought a vented hood for the flower tent. Hopefully it'll allow me to turn the light up past 50% without temp issues. I'm also going to add a 4" duct fan to that same tent. The tent already has a 6" fan. Need to keep it a decent temp in there. It's been very hot outside lately.
