First grow, and failing.....

Please, if anyone can help im loosing the fight here (I think)....

I git some widdow seeds and here are the steps i followed.

1. I germinated them in a shot glass. one shot glass of water per seed, 6 seeds total.

2. after the seeds sprouted and the root was one and a half inches long, I transplanted them into a red dixi cup with organic soil, seed side up and root down. I made plenty of drainage holes on each cup.

3. I placed the seedlings under a 120w grow light. it is not just a 120w bulb.. Its made as a grow light for indoor gardens.

4. I placed a fan in the room to keep the heat down because that small space gets warm with that lamp.

ok thats what i have done. the seedlings took and grew very tall very fast to the point i had to put some tothpicks in the soil to stand them up. They grew one node and then stoped growing.

so I went to peek at them today and two of them were wilted and colapsed. no recovery, they were gona.. I dont want to loose any more so if anyone could please advise me what they may think i need to do.. anyone??

My guess is they stretch too much. How far do you have the light? What color is the bulb?
You want to keep the light as close to the plants without burning them. For veg you want 6500 k and flower 2700k.

thank you for replying. the light color is a white / blue and its about 3 feet away from the top of the plants. is there any recovering?

try repotting filling with dirt until your plants are head up bring the light as close as you can without them burning or being too hot to the back of your hand.If its too hot for you then it is for your plant.
Hopefully they recover if not good luck on your next try.Remember keep the lights close.

the light puts off quite a bit of heat, this being my first grow im affraid of how much heat is to much. ive lost two of six, one is almost gone i fear, but 3 are looking good. how long untill more nodes are supposed to form. they have one already and are 3 weeks old

dude, don't tell me you're growing with a halogen light..... that's your biggest mistake

its a sylvania 120 w 120 v spot-grow light indoor use only. its very bright and the buld itself has a blue top layer. i have that inside a silver reflector dome around it..

it doesnt say its a halogen, i looked for that when i got the bulbs

Two things... too much light and too much heat.

Use some CFL's or 2' t-8/t-5 flouro tubes in the 6500k range "daylight". Seedlings don't need a lot of light. This should also help reduce the heat. I start my seedlings out under humidity domes for the first week of life, then gradually harden them off.

Hey gang. I just wanted to thank you for the advice. I got rid of the crappy hot grow light and got a 6500k daylight set up and the ladies are doing %1000 better. I got a rubber maid type storage bin and lined it with foil, cut a hole in the lid and placed a light over it. yall may have saved the crop. I have a total of 7 widdow plants going now and i couldnt be happier at this point. in just a week they have grown 3 nodes.. thanks again
