First Grow: 4 weeks in Veg. Concern about height.

Hi Everybody,

I'm a first time grower and new member of RIU. I'm currently growing Bubba Kush, or at least i think it is. I'm 4 weeks in and it's only about 3 1/2 inch tall. I just transplant it today from a SOLO cup to a 1 Gal pot. I'm just wondering if its rate of growth is too slow. Current pic of it is uploaded. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Specs:
Grow Box Area:
1.5'x1.75'x2.5' (WxLxH)
(will be moving it to a 1'x2'x5.5' grow cabinet as soon as I finish building it.)

Lighting:
4x 23 Watts CFL's 800 Lumens ea. color temp:6500k
Kept 3-5 inches from canopy
16hrs on/ 8hrs off

Media&Nutrients:
2 gal of Fox Farm Ocean Forest & 2 Tbsp dolomite lime
(like i said, recently transplanted from a SOLO cup)

Water: Tap water left out with no cover for 3 days, Ph adjusted to 6.8
Nutrients: Fox Farm Trio. Big Bloom, Grow Big, and Tiger Bloom.
(Initially used 1/4 of recommended dosage after 2 weeks in growth, now using 1/3. Only nute every other watering. Haven't started Tiger Bloom, yet. Flush every 2-3 weeks, will be flushing next week)

Recently checked soil Ph, 6.7

Misc:
Intake 4" fan/ home made carbon filter connected to an exhaust fan.

Temp Avg: 78 degrees F day/ 65 degrees F night
Humidity Avg: 40%

I originally had 6-23 watts, but the temp reached around 85-88 degrees. Maybe because it's the small space it's in. Do you think once I move it to the new cabinet, the temp won't be as high with the 6 bulbs. And, how many more watts do you think i need? I also read somewhere that indoor growing requires a minimum of 33 watts/sq f. Thanks for the input btw.
 
These are master bubba's @ 5 weeks.

Tho, they are in a DWC with nutes and a 400 watt hps/mh setup.

Chill, I think a lot of people exagerate their veg growth on here. At the least, it takes a couple of weeks between stages to get used to the next environment.
 
You left her in the solo cup too long and was rootbound until you TP'd.

Here's how to get an idea of when your plant might be getting rootbound. Get above the plant and look straight
down at it. Note wether the widest leaves have grown past the sidewalls of the pot. Is the plant wider than the pot?
If so you can figure your roots have maxed out their growth underground. Reason is that generally leaves grow out
at about the same rate the roots do. So we use the visible indicator to show us what we can't see. When the widest leaves pass
the side of the pot it is time to decide to TP to a larger pot or let her go the way she is.

PS -- I found my notes on my BuKu grow last year.

Grew one plant and it was the class runt. At 3 weeks vegging the BuKu was 11 inches tall while the other 5 varieties
averaged 18 inches. I vegged her for 5 weeks, a week longer than usual due to her size. I noted that the plant did not
need as much water as the others. I had to flower the BuKu almost 7 weeks to finish and that is about 10 days longer
than I expected. Plant never reached 3 feet tall by harvest. Cured 22 grams of killa bud. I keep it for company, eh?
The product is outstanding! Turned my brother onto BuKu and he just finished his grow. I talked him out of the harvested plant
and it is now vegging as I will re-grow her. I hope to get a full 28 from the re-grow and will slow down on having company.

Thanks for the kind words.

This is my 1st grow ever..... I don't even smoke.
I just went with DWC because it seemed ideal for my grow area. Plus the idea of dirt and soil seems to dirty.
Every person has their opinion on their methods but I have found DWC to be pretty easy.

The only down side I can say about DWC or any rez grow is that people have issues with root rot. Knock on wood, I have yet to have that problem.

So do you think I'll need another week or 2 of Veg or should I go straight into flowering next week? Also, I was hoping to get some LST done on this one, but I wasn't sure if it was big enough to start that.

its big enough to LST. and as far as when to bud the plant, the best method is to wait for preflowers which indicate the plant is ready to bud. but a good rule of thumb is when the plant is 2/3 the size you want it to be then start to flower. and avoid high levels of Nitrogen during first 2-3 weeks of flower to help prevent stretching.
 
This is about what they should look like nearing 4 weeks. I'm guessing your need a lot more light then you're giving it.
