Agreed for sure on the MH. I forgot to mention that I did order another when I dropped the 14k phoenix . I have another 20k bulb I feel is too old (used on a 40 gal reef tank) so I will just have to be patient...I know they will get bushy and plan on using one or two as mothers. Just to clarify why I wanted to add another 3. :) Additionally, I think I'm gonna try the FIMming technique on 2 just to see the difference. I've always just let them go and trimmed as needed.

So I decided on the dims for my veg box.
L-38"
W-24"
H-30"
1-4" intake
2-4" exhaust w/ fans
2x96w PC fixture 1-10k, 1-420nm

Any thoughts, opinions? Thanks in advance :)

Here is an update taken today at 8am. The girls are nice and green and seem happy. The initial stretch they had has stopped and other than the "midget", all are starting to really take off. I do have one gripe though. I picked up an Agrosun 400w MH bulb as my ballast is dimmable and will run both HPS and MH. Well, turns out my ballast wont fire the MH bulbs. I tried to locate contact info for the manufacturer but no luck. I called the hydro store where I got and they of course were more than happy to replace it as I bought it the end of December 2010. Problem is that they are 3 hours away and I never get over that way unless I'm fishing or shooting. Talked to my local hydro store and unfortunately they don't stock my ballast. They did contact their distributor to see if we could warranty swap but the distributor said no. So it looks as thought I will have to just run the HPS bulb this run until I can make time to head their way. Or maybe I'll just upgrade to 600w dimmable, dual bulb ballast and do my warranty swap the 400w later. Hope all of you RIU folks are having a great safe day. As always, questions, comment, suggestions are always appreciated.

u can successfully run hps all the way through & actually some growers prefer it. U may be surprised at the end grow & may like the results, don't sweat it :)

Im not stressing too hard. I have always run MH for veg, then HPS to flower so it's just an adjustment I need to make.I was just bummed that it's gonna be a hassle to swap the ballast and that I could have spent the money for the bulb on other stuff had I known. Oh well, scheme of things right? I've been checking out some other grows that use HPS exclusively and they look good. I am def interested to see what my final yield is. Another grower i know has been yielding 3-5oz per plant from the same seeds so I'm hoping for 2-3oz/ea. being that I'm a little rusty and am running this grow as a "warm up" if you will. I started these seeds just to see if I could and was happily surprised that EVERY Hindu Kush seed I had germed and sprouted. Just had 2 more break soil. Making for 100% (I may order seeds for the first time soon) I said in an earlier post that I was going to FIM a couple. I have decided to just let the girls be and do their thing. I'm more concerned with quality than quantity, though both are equally important.

Thanks for stopping in exception. Well I woke up and checked the girls this morning and some of them were drooping. Man, I pulled a big fat busch league move. Over watering, fortunately it's not horrible but I should know better, this isn't my first time. In all fairness to myself this grow is of course to grow my own good bud, but mainly for me to get back on the horse and into the "groove" again. Also I noticed some fungus gnats (again because I over watered) and treated the soil with some hydrogen peroxide solution, added a small tray of apple cider vinegar, small potato pieces, and yellow fly strips. I figure short of a pesticide I have my bases covered. So I'm off to go fishing then to the hydro store to check out more toys. Only problem, toys = $$$.

Thanks red. I hope I do have it under control. If not then I quit! LOL. Yeah, I think it can be worth it if you plan. I already made the mistake of buying a ton of crap that I either didn't need or changed because I didn't plan way back when I first started reef keeping 20yrs ago. Only took one time and a ton of cash to learn that lesson. I must say that I do like all the automation that's available now. It was around when I used to grow, but was horribly cost prohibitive. Things have come down in price considerably, will definitely look into that some more. Not sure if I'm buying today or just kicking some more tires. I'm looking into an ebb and grow style bucket system, heard good things and have seen some really good production. I figure it's worth looking into as I already have everything to set up except for a controller and hydroton. No rush for me as I have plenty of time while this grow finishes. Any thoughts are welcome, so feel free to contribute RIU :)

Some pics from this morning for everyone, 23 days from germ on all pics. I know the midget is way small but as this is a warm up for me, I'm going to see it through just for fun. Plus, I kinda like her :-P. Fortunately my brain fart wasn't the worst I've ever had, but not the last I'm sure. Still waiting on the soil to dry out more before watering again then, I'm going to give them all a good flush.

In other news...
Still real interested in the ebb and grow style bucket systems, the more I see the more I like it. Additionally $377.00 is a killer price on a 12 bucket complete system (list is $579.99). Thinking I might pull the trigger...after more research. I have plenty of time and I need to be patient, I have other things to finish before (like my veg box). Another switch I will make for the next grow will be to the Nextgen 400/600w ballast w/ digilux MH/HP bulbs 400mh, and 600hps...Well that's all for now RIU.

Thanks exception and sticky for stopping in. I think I am on the tail end of those PIA gnats. I seem to have the opposite problem of others who use a cabinet or tent in that heat is completely a non issue for me right now. I got room temps of 82.9 last week. Inside cabinet 78.2. Taking a lot longer for the soil to dry out like I want. I'll figure out a solution tomorrow, probably mix in some more perlite, too tired from running around this weekend. I know you guys love pics so I will post some in a few. Also, stay tuned as there will be some changes coming real soon with this grow  Alright off I go to get those pics I promised...till then
