Finally started agar dishes

Last week I spread some spores on some potato, honey agar plates (mini jars). Looks like I got a few that are growing right.

Wish I would have started useing dishes a long time ago from everything I have read it should make life a lot easier. Can't wait to try to start cloning. Here is a couple jars, one from when it first started and from today.

Got some differant agar in the mail I'm going to try also. Lookes like 18 of my 21 jars are doing good that I knocked up with syringes I made.

Nice.!!. I use mea. Keep 'm coming, I'm curious on how the potatoe honey agar works for you.

The top 3 pics are of the potato honey, seems to be working so far. I'm going to check on the other dishes with the other agar in then to see if they have done anything yet.

This one the big white spot is a transfer I did from a honet dosh to a malt dish just fucking around. This dish has spores in it too

This one is a pc of bird seed that had mycelium on it from one of my jars.

Some more updates on my dishes. They are all doing real good but here is a few pics. The one that looks real good is from growing out a piece of bird seed that had mycelium on it.

Make a walkthrough. I have spore syringes and can duplicate this with proper direction.

Get some agar agar, some honey and potatos. Fill a pot with a lil over a qt of water and boil the potatos till their soft. 4 potatos will work, slice them up so they boil faster.

Once u have the potato water, filter out the potatos using a sock and collect the water in a cup. Put a lil over a pint of the potato water back into the pot, mix in a few tsp of honey and 9grams of agar agar. Cook the mixture for about 10 min while stiring constantly. Pour the mixture into a canning jar leaving an inch of space and screw the cap on. Pressure cook for 15 minutes.

If u don't have sterile petri dishes then you can use small canning jars but they will need to be pressure cooked for 15 min as well to kill any germs. Once the jar with the agar in it is cool enough to hold(about an hour), pour it into the dishes, put the lids on and let stand untill they are all cool and solid.

With a syringe you probably only need to put like 1 drop in a dish but im sure there is a write up somewhere on how to do it with a syringe.

I ordered agar agar and sterile Petri dishes on amazon. Will hit you up in a few days. Will be ready to rock and roll.

I'm working this out mentally, if i'm just putting a couple of drops - what do i need to do to sanitize the top of the syringe so i can screw it back on. Is alcohol enough?

With the instant pot u will need to extend the time cuz most of them only hit 12psi. I'd just add like 15 more minutes to the times. A lot of times u can find cheap pressure cookers at the second hand store. The agar plates are going to decrease your contamination rate by quite a bit.

That's good info, thanks. What's the optimal product to get with budget in mind? Should i expect to spend more than $60?

Wipe the end with alcohol should be sufficient.

Im pretty sure presto has a 23 qt pressure cooker for about $75 online which is the best bang for your buck. Pressure cooking is what takes up most of the time when making grain jars so the more you can pressure cook at a time the faster you get done. When you pressure cook grain jars its typically 1.5 hours so the less batches you have to do the better.

When I make jars I use bird seed, the cheaper the better. I boil it for 1/2 an hour, strain it then load it in the jars. Pop a hole in the lid, stuff polly fill in the hole. Cover the lid with alu foil to keep water out them pressure cook.

Can't really conceptualize this in my mind. Perhaps I should buy injectable mason jars to make this easier? edit: bought these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UA8G7S6/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Yea and u can inject thru it but i just open the lid and squirt it in

Petri dishes, and agar agar arrived yesterday. I'm going to grab some potatoes today and officially start this project tomorrow night after work. I have a couple of vials ready to go, and for the record: inoculation failed on the 2 pre-sterilized bags from ebay - so i hope this works out.
