JP thanks for the info on the pricing. It looks like the market for production LED lights is getting close to the price of DIY to build a good light. Interesting how it will work out for me when I decide what to do for my next lighting project.

You could cut they price quite a bit by going with an actively cooled build, and cheaper COBs. The CXB3590s are still kinda pricey for top bin. The 3070s are about half. The majority of the cost was in chips and heatsinks.

I suppose the gap is narrowing... Nine A51 W90's would be about $1,500. Tastyled's 1750 series, you'd need 3 of the 3 COB units to be similar, also about $1,500. Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head that are comparable to Jp's, because any maker that would put all 9 COBs in one compact housing is really screwing the pooch on coverage. You really need them spread out more than that.

But like Jp said, you can build a comparable light yourself for significantly less than his. Like lots of life, it may come down to which you have more of, time or money.

I was more just saying you could get a similar PPFD, similar efficiency, for alot less, like 200 or 300 less :) building it compared to mine.

Using veros or CXB3070s. And actively cooling smaller heatsinks.

I just geeked out on the super high PPFD passive cooled systems and wanted to make one :)

This was kind of a test run to make sure I don't mess up 52" heatsinks or blow 5 COB strings.

Been awhile thought I'd update with my new clone/veg tent. Tried out a new design on a veg light.

2 - 120h / 1050 MW
4 - 72 v cxb3590 5000k
3 - heatsinks hooked with custom hinges

Should be pushing about 300w. The tomatoes and Denver Diesel are in heaven.

Working on the big flower panels now, and I'm obviously on a schedule now. Also just popped some new bodhi boysenberry hashplant last night.

Test run with the cxbs should be quite nice :)

Hell ya. Glad to see someone driving these hard like that. 2100 MA FTW.

They are actually being run at 1050ma. But with the 72v COBs they push about 75w/chip :)
Also for anyone using the EGRAF, you may want to think yet about using it with the 72v chips on a passive build. Sinks are running a bit hot. Had to add a fan :/ worth it for 300w but not what I was trying to build.

I'll be running tests with the Arctic silver on the next few.
