Final dry?

In the past after a certain point of jar curing, I'd just leave the jars closed aside from a few burps/checks. Buds were not bone dry, had a light bit of spring to them, but never seemed to harden up. Is there a good way to dry them well aside from just leaving the jars open?

I hang them in a closed closet, I just cut off the branches and hang those, thinking it would slow the drying. After 2 days the outside is crispy and leaves shrunk into the buds for the most part. I then take the branches and put them inn a rolled up paper grocery bag and put in a drawer, opening up every day to rearrange. Within a few days things are almost too dry and crispy, I then cut off the buds and jar. With my latest batch the actual buds have a little spring to them, stems will crack in half easily. I've only aired them out every 3 or so days, I empty the jars out onto cardboard and spread them out, then rejar after 10 or so minutes.

I'm thinking there's little to no curing that can be done at this point But I'll see if they change at all in the next week. I realize you can't make buds compact after the fact (although these are pretty dense) but am looking for a similar 'hard' consistency as commercially purchased buds.

Aside from buying equipment I won't use that often for humidity, in the end I need to find a slower way to dry. Nor Cal here

What's the temp and RH where you dry? What's the RH when you first put them in jars? That's really really fast to go into jars imo.

You've got to dial in the humidity of the drying area. A humidifier and a hygrometer can be had for under $30. It sounds like you are overdrying it before it goes into the jars.

Been in the 80's/low 90's past few weeks, house temps never get above 78. I have no way of knowing the RH, but I may look into a meter if I grow again next year. Even then, how would I 'moisturize" the air? Although we had heavy rain few weeks back, just for context our area's relative humidity is in the 30's, dewpoint around 50

Get a meter, they are cheap and will help you control the dry so it slows way down.

A humidifier. A bucket of water in the room with a rag dipped in the bucket and hanging over the edge works too.

These work fine and you have enough for several jars. I bought a 12 pack and stick random ones everywhere. Lol

You can find humidifiers all day on marketplace for $10-$15. But for the cost difference, I'd grab a new on on Amazon for $20-25. Matter of fact, mine is being delivered today. I picked up one of these. Hoping it works well with the inkbird controller.
