Few Questions About Indoor Soil.

Hey, everybody thanks for checking out the post, I have a few questions about growing in soil "its my first time", When I first started growing, I went straight for hydro, but now that i'm accumulating so many different strains I wanted to start some mothers off in soil. I'm going to do some reading about it also but I figured a post would get me the exact info that I need the fastest.

I just bought some 3 gallon smart pots, the big bag of "Fox Farm - Ocean Forest" I have heard good things about this soil, they say the soil has enough nutrients to supply the plant for 3 to 4 weeks.

Now for the questions:

Do any of you guys use Ocean Forest?

How often are you suppose to feed and water?

How much should I feed/water if im using 3 gallon smart pots.

What should the ph of the water be adjusted to for watering?

Should I gradually upgrade the pot size as the plant grows, from regular rapid rooter growing dome, to regular plastic cup, then to 3 gallon or Is it ok just to plant small clone into a 3 gallon?

What should the range I should be in when dealing with soil ph.

If anybody can give me a quick run down on the basic maintenance of growing soil.

Thanks everybody for the help, I appreciate it. Also if there is anything that I left out please share. Thanks again.

I use FFOF, works great though it can compact easily if not used with perlite. I normally have to water every 2-3 days. & 3-4 days with smaller plants in larger pots.

Yes it is good to Up pots as it grows, from rapid rooter, to party cup, to 3gal would be perfect.

I usually PH my water / solution to 6.8 before I feed.

I literally am harvesting on friday a plant in my closet grown in a 3gl smart pot with ocean forest. ph at 6.5. (or whatever your preference is) if you have any trouble just water feed for 5-7 days, then reset your ppm. ive got some pics on my page "kai kush"

I've always mixed my own soil's from some cheap potting soil + perlite + bloodmeal. Seems to be doing the trick for me, but many people swear by "ocean forest" soil.

You water when the soil is dry, so it varies with your soil composition and how well your drainage is. If you get your soil mixture right if you overwater the excess will just run off and you will be watering every 2-3 days.

When you first mix your soil when you grab a chunk in your hand and squeeze it, if it stays together but still easily falls apart thats about right, if it wont hold its shape when squeezed add more soil, if its holding its shape and you could throw it without it falling apart in your hand then add more perlite.

You want to feed every other watering, if your soil has nutrients in it, wait a good 3 weeks before starting to add nutrients to your water. You will notice deficiencies popping up if your soil isn't providing the nutrients needed. Only add at 1/4 strength at the start, if no real good nutrients in your soil start at about week 2. BE SURE TO READ THE NUTRIENT INSTRUCTIONS AND ADJUST ACCORDING TO CONTAINER SIZE, or use your PPM meter and after you subtract the base nutrient free ppm from the final PPM you should have about 300-400 for 1/4 strength.

I'd make sure your cuttings are rooting first before putting them into the 3gal pots, no need to go to an intermediate step. You want your root system to search out for water and go down, so if you use an intermediate step that holds the roots up higher and tighter, and also stresses it out more repotting repeatedly.

Did I leave anything out?
