fern smell?

Just ending my first week of flower on my first grow.

I have a ds60 under my stairs I'm running one of the best 5" fans for power and sound levels (German make I forget the name)
I also have a huge CF hooked up too.
I have place a number of airwick plugin around my house but I still get a slight fern smell when I enter my house?
I'm worring now that this slight smell will become stronger when my girls bud.
What can I do to stop this.?

More info.
150 hid,small oscillating fan,
No inlet fan but clean air being pulled from another room.
Outlet is running from a cooltubes and into a area above the tent leading to a vent to a different room.
Only growing two girls one mainlined well sort of...first try.
Both around 26" now and show small buds.
Any ideas?
I want to grow silent and so far I have managed it but Smell is beating me some how.

I'm having the same issue...even though i have a carbon filter hooked up, although the smells not coming from the exhaust, so i imagine its coming from the circular opening of the tent which ive now shut so i
will wait and see...Do you have a carbon filter? because they work great

If you have a big enough carbon fret for your space there should be zero smell. If there is smell coming from their area then you must have a air leak. Thus letting air out before it has a chance to be filtered. If you've covered it you should be fine.

Like I mentioned in my other reply my veg room gives off a wonderful aroma to me but not for all so nothing fancy is needed. Get $10 ready, take a trip to infamous Walmart and buy some glade plug ins and plug them in by any entrances. if anyone unexpectedly should pay you a visit they'll be welcomed with an inviting smell lol. The ones that spray when you walk by work great thru ought the house. I have like 4 plug inns and that's all you smell. If you bring $20 you can graba few refills and not have to worry about odor for a good while.

Yeah til you hit flower and it starts to smell like a skunks ass...get a carbon filter and fix air leaks, should solve your problems

Get some ferns so you have an excuse.

I can't see any leaks,i also have a Carbon hooked up

Carbon Filter> cooltube> fan.

Can i just not have a open bit of ducting leading to my cooltube then to my fan but place my carbon filter on the end ?

for now best go buy some ferns... lol

Your gonna need an exhaust in the closet...otherwise no amount of "ferns" is gonna cover the smell. She will continue to change and usually only worsens significantly over time

Right now I have a small inlet fan sat in my ducting which pulls from my kitchen, then 36"of 5" duct feeding into my tent.
A small but powerful oscillating fan blowing up at my girls.
The top half I have a huge carbon filter connected to ducting and a cooltube then more ducting passing out the top to a soler & paulu 5" fan, then I have a meter of snakes up ducting sat in front of a vent to a different room.
How big of a leak should I be looking for?

My set up is 100% stealth
A tent under my stairs just big enough for me a small stool and my work in progress veg box.
Had a lot of heat issue due to my tent being in such a enclosed space. (why I'm running a COOLTUBE now)

I sealed up the stairs with foam and boarded up after, very little sound but some smell?
Can a CF be to big?
My cfm is 480 very overkill.
But I am running a lot of ducting.
I get sucksion when I zip up so im lost...
Poor carbon maybe?
Any way to test a filter at all.
Its new and this is my first grow.
I did drop it once but it's looks fine.
Any ideas?

If you have a 440 fan what is the Filter specs? Is it also 440 or did you just get whatever Carbon Filter you found and the bought a fan for it? I ask because if your fan is rated at 440 and the filter at 100 cfm then it serves NO purpose as the air is being pulled thru the filter at a rate that it cannot properly filter hense leaving behind the ordors that it is supposed to get rid of. If all else fails try to get a controler so that you can slow the fan down so maybe it can filter better. Just a thought. If you purchased a package set then I would revise ALL ducting and just look all over for air leaks.

That's a fresh idea man.
being a noob I can't tell you the cfm of my carbon filter.
I ordered a complete ds60 set up which normally comes with all ducting, fan and filter sized at 4"
But the shop was out of that size so I upgraded to 5"

The filter is massive at a guess 18" x 9" I had a shit TT fan but replaced it due to my tent being in an enclosed space and suffering from heat issues
(same reason I got a cool tube)

I have replaced all my ducting and ran acoustic on top in places outside the tent.

Because I had to get the smallest tent and I'm running such a large carbon filter space is a problem

Would a smaller carbon help out?
If I switch to low speed will the fan pull hard enough to keep my cooltube functioning?

I'm wondering if I move my inlet fan to the end of my ducting where my carbon filter was.
but pulling from the tent past my light to then let my outlet monster pick up the airflow and then blow out my carbon filter instead.

Would that work?

Air is not supposed to blow thru your filter. Maybe im
not understanding what you mean but needs to be sucked thru the filter. My setup goes Monster carbon filter ducting from that goes into my cool tube then ducting on other side of cool tube goes to my inline fan which SUCKS the air out NOT pushes it out. Again I'm sorry if I misunderstand what you are saying but I am going to take a pic now of my setup and post it here for you. Hope this helps man. I hate when I cant figure shit out.

I really think your fan is too big for your filter. That is hoenstly about the size of my 4" filter and I only have a 190cgm fan on it. If you upgraded to a bigger stronger fan then yeah it's going to suck more but that same can filter was only designed to deal with the poor suction of the TT fan. Being that you are now running a stronger fan you MUST purchase a stronger filter. One that is rated at whatever your fan is rated. If it is oly a 5" filter I can't inamgine it being more then 240cfm or something along that ball park. Great filter sure but not qualified to have 440+ cfm running thru it. The controller would let you bring the speed down this letting the air filter thru the carbon.

I run a 600HPS in a 4 x 3 x 6 area, that's SMALL for that size light and I never have temps over 82*F anymore. All I have is a small 190 CFM fan with filter and a couple fans blowing inside and one sucking air from out the cabenit in. Small computer fan does that job but I want a better inlet fan so that maybe my temps come down a smidge more. I'll put the pics I told you about now. Hope this helps bro!

Thanks man I will turn my fan down to low speed and see if that helps if not I will buy a better CF.

I really want to try and run a small fan pulling directly into the cooltube and blow out the cf instead.
So could my heat issue (still hitting 31*c)
Because my filter can't cope with my fan?

Merry Christmas to you too! I would imagine your cool tube same size as mine 6" round. I would get a 6" 380 cfm filter. Remember tho the air CAN'T be pushed thru it needs to be SUCKED thru the filter! I would say your filter isn't doing much of anything for you so screw it, try taking it out of the equation all together for now. See if the smell doesn't increase and maybe temps will lower a bit.

Do you have anything sucking air in to the tent? I had such trouble with Temps and added that 120cm computer fan to suck air in and omg that made a HUGE difference for me. Also make sure that the air being taken out of the tent leaves the room all together. At first my air would just go into the room and my temps where insane. Once I added ducting and ran that air out the door or window my temps came way down too. It's the silly little things that make all the difference in the world. HG and I hope you get the smell in check and again Merry Xmas!

So in answer to your Q no I don't think it's over kill. The 6" one is slightly higher that's fine. IMO there is no such thing as overkill when it comes to ventilation. As long as you don't freeze them the more gentle air flow the better. Like I said tho, if you have nothing sucking air IN TO the tent I would go get even a small comput fan like I did and that will help temps. Won't do much for smell lol but sure does help temps in small areas.
