Federal intelligence agencies may help target pot growers

I take it flying Drones over California is near.

Big Brother is not an illusion.

It's past time to legalize.

Lawmakers soon may enlist the nation's spymaster to help fight Mexican drug traffickers and others who use federal land in California and elsewhere to grow marijuana.
A provision of the 2012 intelligence authorization bill calls on the director of national intelligence to assess and report on how federal intelligence agencies can help park rangers, fish and wildlife wardens, and other U.S. land managers weed out pot gardens and other activities operated by foreign drug traffickers.
The bill, now before the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, also directs the top spy to consult with federal public land managers to identify intelligence and information-sharing gaps related to drug trafficking. The House passed its version of the bill, HR 1892, in September.
U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., who wrote the provision, said the nation’s intelligence apparatus needs to address marijuana grown on public land because of thepresence of foreign drug traffickers and the accompanying threat of violence.

It's a weird day.. Pot-TV and Intelligence agencies starting surveillance on pot growers in the USA.

I'm guessing that the Feds are ready to use military to beat down California. Seems the Feds know they have really lost the high ground in California (pun intended)

What is to stop them from flying over private property to photograph a city park for example.

I think as I just wrote there is an effort to use federal military powers to put California in it's place. They are out numbered and may be getting desperate.

What do you think?

At this same time I am reading that this years pot-harvest is absolutely wonderful. The weather was perfect and the result is top quality and lots of it.

recently my county tried to count the home grows by helicopter and had to land after one mile to refuel - there were too many to ever count that way - are they going to use these drones to catalog me? :s

the feds make money when things are imported into the US - in this case someone gets $10,000,000,000 in bribe money for letting it happen.. you probably noticed that the same week the raids happened, they opened the border to mexican trucks under NAFTA....

Yeah and also they closed a couple of Tunnels so maybe they are saying use trucks, don't grow in California or use tunnels?

It sounds silly but our drug policies are... well, a bit scatter brained what with us shipping guns south so we can be sure thousands get killed this year and the supply is ever ready.

I would think that a domestic grower would be OK. That would be grounds for dismissal as it appears that the key element is to "target FOREIGN drug trafficers". Much like the FISA act, which requires that one participant of any intercepted wire/wireless communication be of foreign nationality and on foreign soil................A good attorney could beat that, no problem.

I've seen your "trees" from the sky, FDD!!! LOL Seriously tho, that street view is really scary. I can read the tag # on my car in my front yard!!!!! Even tho the pic IS a couple years old. I'm sure it can be done and viewed in Real Time.

Sorry to read your area had a bad season fade.

My friend down south thought it was a great year since it was strangely cooler.

I got the index page for google earth. I have that installed so is there a coordinate I should look at?

Try looking at your house for starters. It's pretty freaky. Then you can just randomly scan private neighborhoods. The detail is amazing! Imagine what can be done in far better resolution (1000x) and in real time.

Have you heard of the 11 or so CA Sheriffs that have taken a stand against the Fed and their reach of law? I'll see if I can find the article but it's titled something like "Sheriff will use SWAT on Feds" and it just talks about how the sheriff is the top of the law and how he won't allow the feds into his jurisdiction.
