Explain plz as I thought every plant was a pheno as no seed will grow the exactly the same, taking different trates from the original plants that have been cross bred!

IE my 2 last zkittles I planted 1 was more indica and the other was mor sativa from the same pack and the breeder was seedsman. Or have I got this all wrong?

It's my understanding that when a strain has been stabilized the spectrum of variety between the phenos has been narrowed considerably, to the point where all of the traits that define the strain are consistent. These days, that seems to be getting more rare. Some of the better breeders will release not yet stabilized crosses and label them as such, (i.e. "F1" if its a first gen cross) creating a more honest expectation of less predictable outcomes. I think what @RonnieB2 was referring to is that some people have found that FastBuds is amongst the many breeders that will release strains where the expectation is that they are mature lines, but instead they are not well stabilized and still contain an unacceptably wide degree of variation between plants.

So (for instance) if zkittles is defined by it's color and smell, and you have two plants that look and smell exactly as zkittles should, but one has narrower sativa looking leaves, and the other has wider indica looking leaves, that might be considered acceptable pheno variation. When you pop two seeds from the same bag and they grow into plants that look like different strains that don't share the features that describe the strain and make it unique, that's indicative of a cross that the breeder has not taken the time and effort to properly stabilize across multiple generations.

I don't have a degree in this, I've just been reading about it for a while, if anyone wants to correct me or clarify, that'd be great.

This is a huge reason why Mephisto is very sought after. They breed most all strains to atleast F4 and up to F8 on alot. Stabilize them and reduce the amount of phenos that you get from most companies that make a S1/F1 auto strain and put it for sale.

I've honestly not even checked out his stuff yet. I don't have any social medias(Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat or Instagram) so if that's the only way is his Instagram, than it will not be a sure thing.

I have been trying to get mephisto seeds for ages now but they are always out of stock. Thanks for clearing up the pheno thing , I am quite new to the growing side so still reading and learning all the time this is why I joined rollitup to learn and listen to the people that have been growing for years and also to share my experiences.

Go to reddit and join. Find Mephisto page and that's where they announce store openings. One should be coming up. Mephisto is quality bud but expensive. RocBudinc is as good or better and a lot cheaper.

I waited around for Mephisto for a while, but no one seems to know when they will be available again. Then I tried to buy some RocBud seeds when the last drop happened but the site kept crashing. I got frustrated and I ended out blowing my seed budget elsewhere. I noticed that yesterday RocBud's site came back online with more seeds available... too late for me, maybe next year. So now I'm loaded up with (mostly) Dutch Passion seeds, I've never grown them before but read solid reviews for them. I hope they are Mephsito/RocBud quality.

I'm sure I spent more for the seeds I bought, but I have to say, it was nice to look through a well laid out catalogue of seeds on a stable website without the pressure of things being bought out while I'm looking. I wish RocBud would put a little more description with his strains... hahaha, I guess I'm old.

He breeds them himself. You can research the strains he uses for breeding at leafy.com. i tell you what. You buy a pack of the cookies or passion punch. And if you dont like them ill buy them. Look at his buds. These are amazing

Beautiful looking plants! but my wife would kill me.

My apologies to the OP for the detour... :)

I've been following this because I have a couple of FB Gorilla Cookies seeds and I'm curious to see how this goes.
