Fans, To push or to pull

Which is more efficient with a fan, Pushing or Pulling?

Do you use a fan to push, or should you use it pull air through


explain why as well please

I favor Blowing/Pushing...

Cooler air has more density, therefore allowing the blades to work more efficiently.. in fact they "grab more air" when it is cold...

Cooler operating temps can also result in longer fan life as we all know that HEAT is an enemy of electrical motors...

I see no benefit in running hot air through your fans BY CHOICE...

As for claims that you get more cfm one way or another, equipment longevity is way more important for me... ESPECIALLY since I use speed controllers on my fans to dial them down a notch... so any cfm increase is BUNK IN MY CASE...:lol:

my opinion is i like the idea of a vacuum inside the tube more than i like the idea of turning it into a wind tunnel

i have no scientific basis for it, its just how i feel

I push. Just the way all the blowers have been set up to work. Seems like it would be a pain to set up to pull. Not trying to take sides. Thats just the way I saw all the cooling fans set up at work. same way a bath or kitchen fan works.

The fan works a lot easier sucking air too so it's just a lot more efficient.

Grab some shitty hose with kinks in it...a hundred feet...fuck it. Have a friend on one end blowing while you cover the other end. It's highly unlikely you will feel any pressure. The air is expanding in the hose and the hose at some tiny level is expanding as well. Terribly inneficient right? Now throw in some corners and angles in a hood to really mess that up.

Now have this person suck on the hose. You'll be shocked at the level of pressure. There is no turbulant air so to speak.

Ok I have a closet grow going with 1 600w sealed hood. Should I place the inline fan before or after the hood, what is the best for cooler temps mine are a little high 91 at the canopy.

I don't use inline fans to push. That would be ducting fans. It all has to do with volume of air going over the light and out. If I use a 240cfm blower and push air threw 20 feet of ducting. I get close to zero heat from the light. ATM I have a small blower fan 80cfm pushing and a 80cfm inline duct fan at the end. room is warmer but still never goes over 80. so what does that prove. nota.

But very few will keep your temps in the "IDEAL" range..

In my opinion 80F is too hot..:razz:

well I am having temp problems at the moment. I think if i get a stronger fan along with the booster fan i have it will be ok, for right now this is what im working with. I know its not the best but I only want to have to put one hole in the ceiling if i have to and there are plenty of was for fresh air to get into the closet. This is what I'm working with, any ideas how how I can make it better besides a better fan?

Your problem is your fan. My set up is 2x1000w in a sealed room. No fresh air in. My 435cfm fan will suck your balls off.

I think you know the answer to your question. ;-)
