Fan speed controller!?!?!?

hi guys this is my first grow. I have everything pretty much setup and now have a question. I am almost 3 weeks into this grow. I ordered a 6" in inline fan with 440 cfm. Fan is a hell of a lot bigger than I imagined lol but it's no problem. I want to use a fan speed controller to help with the noise of the big ass fan lol. I probably could have made it by using a 4" in inline fan but logic struck me that it would make more sense to spend $10 more on the 6"in and use a controller to turn it down. Anyway being a noob I just ordered a fan speed controller as pictured off the web for about $20. I've been spending the last few days reading and trying to get a solid answer but all the info I see is debatable and/or outdated. I don't know if the fan has a "brushed" or "brushless" motor as I don't know what these are or the difference. So my question is will this controller work PROPERLY with my fan, is it SAFE for my fan, and will it damage/decrease the life of my fan. Or should I send it back and spend $50+ for the other kind of controllers I see

I'm using a 220v growlush controller for mine. Works well so far. There's just a weird hum when the fan starts up if it's set relatively low. More hum the lower the setting. Until the fan is up to speed.

both my controllers failed me. both were strangely humming full time, one ruined a fan. I threw both in the garbage some years ago and never looked back

Thats the exact same controller ive used for 5 grows. I use a 440 cfm Active Air fan and both are still running strong.

Only equipment failure ive had was a temp controller.. damned thing wouldnt turn off after hitting the set low temp so there were a couple of days when the fan was just pouring in air continuously.
