fan question?

how big should my plants be before I put them in front of a recip. fan? and why is this so important? i read it helps strengthen the stems... is it neccessary for anything else?

As soon as they can take it. Keep at a distance at first and on slow.

It also circulates the air around the room replenishing the CO2 at the leaf surface.
 
Its also good for moving the hot air away from the plants, so you can keep the lights nice and close.
