Fan leaves to big

if you are still vegging i wouldn't cut fan leaves. just my opinion.

instead of adding cfls....add led...im replacing all my cfls for led right now...the kids seem to love it.....i started with 3 of them...now im gonna replace all 9....after that im getting some led panels to replace my hps.....

i agree with bless also.....dont cut leaves add more light..you keep saying the light isnt an issue...but it must be if your worried about geting light to the underbranching..so much in fact you want to cut the fan leaves..............im just saying

Do not cut fan leaves in vegging state. Try and move or bend them over or out of the way to let your lower parts of the plant recieve light. The fans leaves are feeding your plant.

yeah but if you're talking about lower leaves within 6-8" of the soil, you should just chop those and harvest them for clones anyway.

True the bottom leaves that receice no light serve no purpuse to the plant, I was referring to the canopy.

I'm doing some LST on one of my girls, she is almost completely horizontal and I'm focusing on the side branches, soon they will grow straight up from the main stalk.
To focus on them growing good I trim the one or two fan leaves that are covering that side.
I got my ideas from the FAQ's so far no harm done, she is doing good.

Your good man one ore two or three leaves won't hurt the plant, but I read on this site where dudes go nuts on trimming fan leaves obsessed with the idea that it helps the plant. All in moderation. Its good rule of thumb.

Yes I totally agree, "All in Moderation"
I have only trimmed 3,
one off the very bottom on the side that I have it bent over on,
and two more on the side that's facing up, the main ones that were covering the undergrowth.

Yes, moderation is the key in my experience. The plant also has a pretty good mechanism of telling you when it doesn't need leaves: they yellow and wilt. For example, fairly early I take all leaves that aren't on branches. as the canopy develops, they are obviously not going to get enough light. Even with LST, that valuable light-space is better used on fan leaves of growing cola branches.
