fan leafs/dead leafs

at what point should u start trimming off the large fan leafs?
more importantly i was wondering about the dead leafs on the lower part of the plant. are they doing more harm then help or is it worth keeping them on? this bugs me because i feel bad pickin of parts of the beauties but it seems like it would help.

people will tell you different things, its a matter of opinion really but here's my rule of thumb:

if the leaf is completely dead cut it, if it is over half dead (wilted you know what i mean) cut it. anything that is still green for majority of the leaf it is a keeper.
i dont ever trim fan leaves, if im having a problem getting light to the lower flowers i just add more lights (around the sides and the bottom). fan leaves are a plants major life support, it is where all the photosynthesis comes from and is needed for your plant to live so dont go clip happy on the young lady.

This is good advise from Poseidon. Never cut off any fan leaves or others for that matter unless they are more than 50% dead.
Where Poseidon adds more lights, if you cant do this, you can train the branches or just tie them to allow light to penetrate the foliage.

ok good info guys cause i will usualy take off the dead leafs if they are easy enough to pluck off. Poseidon + rep

Never read spliffs, not heard of it and probably don't get it here (England)
Its from a comic called the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, about three old hippies doing all they can too get high and get laid.

i am not yet in flowering but i have gone thru it being told to trim and not to trim fan leafs but ive been geting some lower leafs browning up and dying prolly from lack of light because they are aculy below the lip of the pot.

lol yeah thats where the quote is quoted from lol but spliffs its a pretty cool book i think every stoner should buy :bigjoint:
