Failed clone death

how long does it take a clone that fails to die. i guess a better question is, how long until you can tell if a clone is a failure or not. i've been looking aroudn the forums but maybe im searching the wrongs things. thanks in advance

EDIT:my question is NOT how long it takes a clone to root. lol. i took a cutting on monday. im not really worried about it. but it got me curious as to other peoples experiences. im asking for your personal experience of how long it took for you to know if your clone was just a dead cutting. ie. wilting and drying out. this is not a "oh i need help" thread. im not asking for your advice. but your personal experience out of curiosity. i've cloned before and it's not my first time. like i said, this is more of a discussion of your personal experiences than a "i need help" thread.

pics explain more but why would a clone fail unless its a dud seed or wrong enviroment

When you put it under the dome it should stay erect and normal looking. If it starts to wilt its either not humid enough in the dome or the clone is rotting. It can either rot on the stem where it gets a greyish color and turns mushy, or on the crown where the new leaves would be coming out (they turn a bleached out yellow color and then get brown burnt spots). That usually happens around a week or after. A healthy cutting should root at around 10 days on average (give or take). If the clone was too small and feeble to begin with or the environment wasnt suitable it will slump over pretty quickly within a day or two.

pics of what? it was a question. some strains don't clone well. different times in the plants life are better for cloning. the environment changing completely could have an effect, etc. generally within a few days the clone will die or look alive, im asking what that is for other people.

again. that's not the answer to my question. well it sort of was, but not really.

I've waited on clones for over three weeks sometimes, if the conditions aren't just right. If they are not brown, totally yellow, or moldy you could wait it out. They have to be green & upright to root.

All joking aside - different strains root quicker than others... Also different plants in the same strain root more quickly than others... So the correct answer is, there is no definitive answer. Use the clone dome technique - as long as the clones are standing tall, they got a chance. If they start to wilt, they either need a spray down or they are dying... That's pretty much it.

haha man seems like people either just cant read or refuse to....

i have clones going right now that are still green as green gets that i took 6 weeks ago, i had them in an aero cloner that just wasnt working for some reason. after a month of no roots i took them out, razor bladed off the brown area on the stem so it was fresh green again and stuck em in rockwool. 2 weeks later im seeing roots.

i would say with optimal humidity and temps you could probabaly keep a clone for 2-3 months but chances are it will root before then

i don't think it's really the inability to read, as much as either my failure to communicate my point or their ability to comprehend what they're reading. either way the message isn't getting through lol. that's actually an interesting experience. so the cutting survived for 6 weeks without rooting? :O

my question was actually really specific and direct. "how long until you can tell if a clone is a failure or not". not how will i know if it's a failure. i know what a dead plant looks like. granted, i could have been more specific as to the responses i was looking for.

apparently you still cant read, it wasnt a question and it wasnt vague. He was pretty thourogh with explaining he wasnt asking any questions but for people to SHARE THIER PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

and i am perfecty content with my cloning been in the rockwool for almost 2 weeks and 60% of them are ready for soil, my aero system was a flop so i moved onto a diferent method....how is that not "learning" how to clone you dumb shit.

almost 6 weeks (this weekend will mark the 6th week)

and yeah my aero cloner was a fail either not enough water or too cold of water or something wasnt happening in there so i went with a simpler method and its working great.

i dont know what the answer is but a clone will piss me off if it goes 3 weeks or more without rooting and ill toss the damn thing. I really suck at cloning after years of growing... SO I clone weekly to make up for it. So basically when I run out of room i start tossing the ones that are being stubborn. I have let some go for 4 weeks or more with no roots and no rot. they just stood there being stupid.

For the science part I'm not really sure what is happening. You would think it would eventually use up whats in the leaves and start to die. But they seem to just go into stasis or something sometimes. I guess it osmosisssses (sp?) enough through the cut and the stem to stay alive.

yep i believe osmosis is what keeps the leaves hydrated, they also uptake water and nutrients through the cut part of the stem and if your using a cloning solution or powder it is actually just a really weak fertilizer with added hormones.

No..he didnt say "share your personal experiences with cloning". He asked how long it took a clone to die and I responded that if its going to die its usually either right off the bat or in about a week to ten days (which actually is my personal experience anyways). Go dunk your head into your shitty aerocloner,you need to cool off..you turned a normal thread into a name calling shouting match. Fire away if you want to,I wont be returning.

lol, maybe if people would read the entire post on here i wouldnt have to call them out. Instead people read the first sentence, have all the answers and when someone calls them on it get all butt hurt...
