Extreme newbie wax yield trim vs buds H.E.L.P

Jello everyone ok I'm really new to all this so I'm kinda lost in awe here. Now I've some 3 runs I believe its called 2 2oz and 1 1&1/2 of dry trim and I only have gotten around 13 grams of wax or shatter not sure which first is that normal yield or horrific? Told you I was really new! Lol. And second does using trim instead of buds make a difference in the yield I'm sure it does but how big a difference by all the articles I've read I'm around 21g short of where I should be 6g of wax per ounce of trim. I'm only getting around 2 grams of wax per ounce. I'm blasting 2oz with Neon 11× premium butane four cans. Please tell me my mistakes I know there's many and please be gentle!! LMFAO!

1st, take whatever anyone else has yielded and forget it. There are too many variables.

2nd, starting material is important, the better the starting material, the better the yield, generally.

3rd, like growing, you're going to have to dial in your system and learn through trial and error. Take notes, if you can afford it, test your materials and end product so you have real, quantitative data to compare and know what your yields truly are and how efficient your tech is.

Good luck

never believe the yields you read about in forums...for every one honest person who will tell you exactly what they got, there are 9 liars who will exaggerate anywhere from 10 to 100%.
and the one honest person may have a shit load more experience at both growing and extraction than you do...don't try to beat the "results" of an online expert, just try to beat your own previous yield

a guy was nice and taught me how to think about this
5-10% avg return
11-15% great return
16-20+% epic return

ok bud runs will always make more then trim runs ....this is due to there being more oils on them then just trim (that have larger mass simple logic)
trim returns all matters on the trim (if all the trim is frosty sugar leaves only u get higher returns but if it mixed in with fan leaves or not frosty sugar leaves that lowers the returns)

so u sent almost 6 oz .......154 grams(5 and half)
so u got 13 grams .....a 10% return would be 15.4 grams .....u were 2.4 off so u are are around 8.2% returns ........good returns on trim for sure

6 g off trim per oz is a myth for that to happen the leaves would need to be coated top and bottom with glands 0 fan leaves.......no one would cut that off the bud they keep it on for the shine and weight

my best return on a OZ of trim was 3.5g that is a 12.5% return .....6g off a oz of trim that would be a 21.2% return
i have only ever seen numbers that high off indoor bud with UVB for 2 weeks

Yield is a function of both process and starting material. I've gotten from around 25% to as low as 5.7% from prime bud, depending on the strain and material. Our current strains are yielding around 18 to 22%, but we pull the fan leaves and run all the bud and trim together.

As a rule of thumb, sugar leaf and popcorn trim is about half that yield, but it depends heavily on the trim. Everyone manicures slightly differently.

How are you preparing and processing your material?

II mix trim and buds but I grind it all down to an almost powder and I pack it tightly into my extraction tube which is PVC by the way but I've discontinued the use of that tube and I'm getting glass tomorrow

Thank you all for your help I'm happy to learn that I'm .not totally inept at this process
Also the color of my and product is so much darker than I've seen. I saw a video showing good quality shatter a light golden honey color and bad quality shatter. Mine isn't the color of either mine is a dark rich gold color with streaks of the honey gold in it when I scrape it up it comes to a dark brown almost black color but when its warm o can stretch it turns back to the dark gold
Color now I've had a few individuals try it and all have said that its fire meaning really really goodgood which makes me happy but I want that honey gold color

2 ways of getting it
1 -40f degree runs (dewaxxing) it also locks up the Chlorophyll in the plant matter
2 u let it spread thin and hit it with UVC light to bleach the Chlorophyll

Ok thanks now when you say 40f runs what exactly is a run and how do I do it the correct way? And where do I find a UVC light

Did you mean negative 40f
yah -40f or -40c (they are both the same temp)

Oh and one other thing well for now at least how tightly am I suppose to pack the extraction tube
that depends on the system
a closed loop pack that thing tight but a open blaster not to tight as gas will stay in the material ........it should only take u 2 cans to do a Oz....well really 1 and half before the tane comes out clear just finish the last of the can

and becareful how ground up u get it to much the smal particals will hit the screen and stay clogging it up

I find it effective to pack whole flower at the bottom of the column. 1 inch usually does the trick. I can then pack finer particles on top and not have any go through.

interesting thread. I recently started looking into wax as well (due to a re-newed interest in vaping and these new wax liquidizer products). Bought 1 inch wide hair straighteners and went the 'press' route. I'll throw out the random info I've been amassing to date :)

Like others have said; focus on your yields (increasing) and forget the claims online. As you progress, gleam ideas from videos and forums that you can add to your evolving method to improve results. In no time at all you'll be waxing up a storm bongsmilie

From what I've read (and seen online) - most schools of extraction support quality starting product (more bud and less leaf).
Though from there it seems to diverge a bit into different schools. Some (thinking of the 'press' method more here) like using fresh buds (live rosin), some partially dried buds(2-3 days), others dried buds (1 - 2 week) or cured bud. Others again, like mixing these all up :) and also mixing strains together when extracting.
Then, for blasting, theres the 'grind' (seems most like 'broken up' as opposed to 'ground to dust').
Freezing the product before extraction seems to be a winner (so many recommend it). With Alcohol 'quick washes' the alcohol is chilled down to these temps too (again to help extraction).

Thats about as far as I've got. I'm still just experimenting with the above ideas to see what works for me. I might even try a laborious method, like: Take quality buds and extract as high quality bubble hash first. Then, press. Just to see.
