Exploded Metal Halide Lamp?

Before I screw this bulb into my fixture, is the residue built up inside mean it's a dud? It's the famous Hortilux Blue, just arrived in the mail.

hid is dead. ask around.

No, the arc fine, but it definitely needs to be in a shielded/enclosed fixture though....safety first!
