Exhaust Fan..Which one to choose?

:?: I am looking around on eBay at different inline fans and just wondering which ones are the better deal? I have a cab 3x4x6 and built a filter with 6 inch duct and need a fan to hook up to it. I see the Vortex, Hydro Farm, HTG, Blue Plastic one, and couple other ones for all about the same price $97 with shipping. I was wondering which ones are preferred? I'm looking for it to be quiet and efficient. I was looking at the 6 in 400-440 cfm. Not sure if a speed controller is needed. My plan is to fasten it to a stud in the cab but I dont want it to sound like a jet in there. Advice is appreciated!:leaf: +Rep

I have intake air coming from underneath from a cooler area. A fan inside the cab blowing on them and am looking for an inline fan to hook to my filter. What else is needed? I looked at the Valuline line ones, they are bout the same as the others that I listed. They look cool cuz they are black tho.

Check your filter and see what the drag rating is. We might be discussing the same type fan, but with different names. Inlines are the cheap fans that are generally used in a duct run for rooms that are furthest away from the HVAC unit. They sometimes come pre-wired, have duct connectors on both ends and are made of duct like material. They use plastic fan type blades. If you are referring to one of those, good luck ;)

Do you have a link of the fan you are considering?

They are all around the same price and the same cfms 400-450. Just wondering which are the better deal. I built the filter myself so I don't know what the draw on it is. I would honestly think I could use a 200 cfm fan in the cab but think that 400 would be more efficient.

Valuline IMO. The active air "green ones" had a high failure rate last year because of where they placed their wiring inside the rotor. If you want reliability belly up and get a vortex by atmosphere. Theres a reason they have a 10 year warranty

The white one in those pics is a Vortex blower. If that ones not then there is one that looks just like it for the same price. The green one looks cheap thats what I was thinking

I use a 4" vortex on a speed control pulling air through a char can and cooltube....seldom runs higher than 1/2 speed.....much quieter with a sp. controller...
A 6" is alot of volume in that area, but will do fine with a sp control....

Sorry for the mix up and confusion Serapis. I wouldn't expect that to work with a filter. If you wanna see my filter design, check out my journal.

Your not, you are one person with a differing view... I consider the fans Vortex fans, just like some people call a cola a Coke I guess.... A vortex fan can be used with one duct, which hardly makes it inline, though it can be utilized as one. I can't imagine anyone needing a 400+ cfm for an inline booster, except in an industrial setting.

i cant be most people then

that same reviewer may not be able to tolerate a cricket chirping either. The fans looked a bit on the light duty side. Remember this, you get what you pay for.

I like that idea. I wonder how well it works. I looked it up and didn't find many reviews, but one review said it was loud.

They aren't an induction fan, as an induction is an entry point for air, and those fans are notched to be inline as a booster, not a place to intake fresh air. Boosters would be accurate, but axial covers just about every fan ever made. I can't think of any fans that don't push or pull air in parallel with the blade's shaft... ;)

Again, as stated earlier, it was my opinion, like some calling a cola a Coke, when it isn't a true Coke, but everyone knows what you mean. That is not the case with fans... if you say Vortex, everyone knows what you mean, or, squirrel cage fan. When you say 'inline', that could pretty much mean anything.

Well im gonna be running a DIY prefilter I made. 8>6 So im hoping the 6" axial is good enough for my 2 panty house drag. + carbon ac filter. I live with the store i linked so im picking thos eup this week, 2 4inches for intake and 1 6 inch for exhaust. in a GL80L 3x5x7 tent with 2 150w hps sun systems (waits to be told i should just up the lights to 2 250s but Im low on cash for one. and for 2 heat cold be an issue, whle id rather have 250s I cant afford the fans for the heat. im running a 500 flat budget. Oh and im only doing 2 plants per light going hempy buckets coco hydroton.
