hey everyone....so im on my second grow.....they are about 5 weeks old now......250W HPS on a 24 hour cycle...4 AK-47 and 1 Blueberry

Im just wondering if you think they wont have enough space later in life? If 1-2 are males I should be good, eh? I mean...how many do you think I can have under a 250W? Do I need more light?

Is that a bath tub?
by the looks of it, you'll have plenty of space since your only using 250W.
I'd put at least a 400W HPS and bloom them by wk 10 or so... about double their size

wow...thanks for the help! Yeah...it is in my bathroom(I bleached everything before the grow). The bathtub is easy for when i have to flush the soil and for drainage.

So you'd say wait about 5 more weeks or so until I start the 12/12 cycle?

Also, judging by the space....how many do you think i could grow to maturity with 250W or should I go for 400W

Do any of you think I should "top" these girls too?

If your going to stay with your 250W, then I would bloom them now because that light won't penetrate the canopy too far.
I would for the 400W, that's alot of room you got there it would be a shame to not get a fair size grow from it...
I'm not a fan of topping, I only do LST because I believe it produces more bud..

I was wondering then....could I just add a 400W HPS along side my 250W? Ive heard its best to have 1 source of light?

....would it equal 650Ws if I had both a 250W and 400W or should I just stick with one 400W and pack away my 250W?

so basically, I am just wondering when I purchase a 400W HPS...if I should only have the 400W going....the more light the better, right?

also around the edges of the leaves on 1 plant....I see a bit of yellow coloration. Could that just be genetics...or is it a possible problem?

genetics? yellowing??? since when did yellowing leaves become a genetic trait? seems like Nitrogen defficiency to me.. .do you PH your water? (failure to do so could cause nute lock out).. as far as your lighting, 250w hps is better than going with CFLs so if your strapped for cash then dont worry about it till u get a grow or two under your belt..

to answer your previous post, Yes, adding a 400w hps would definately help.. how could it hurt? the information you recieved about one light source is incorrect... how would u evenly distribute a 25' x 25' room with one powerful ass light? its just not as effecient as strategic placement of many lower wattage lights....

To summarize, i think you are worried about too much.. i mean your growing in a bathtub for christ's sake... how much power are looking for? you should be fine with the 250 for now.. the 400 would be better but obviously the two combined would yield more.

as long as you can bend the branches without breaking them they can be LSTed.. just move a branch where u want it and anchor it in a way that wont harm the plant ( i used to take a brick and tie it to the top of 5- 6 foot tall un topped outdoor plants.. all the side branches would turn into Main colas! )

well....from the very first nod to the soil...it is more woody.... maybe like a half inch above the soil its woody.

From that up though....its still bendable/green

should I tie down all the side branches along with the main stem?

if you look at MY GROW in my signature i have some good examples of how to LST a plant.. yes just tie down the branches all in different directions, this will lower the overall height and will force them to bush out .. heres a pic

thats how i do mine. i make small drilled holes around the rim of the pot. then i tie down the branches with plastic coated wires ( or garbage bag ties ) ... you see how the tops are facing downward/away from the light? they will self correct in a couple hours.. this particular plant bounced back in 2 hours.
