Currently have a mars hydro 1000 and spider farmer 1000. Was gifted a bigger tent (3ftx3ft) so im asking if this will flower plants with proper light. Currently have a lemon-lime kush and headband haze bout 1-1/2 weeks into flower. And a pic of agent orange thats now finally done from same lights in smaller tent.
Thanks.

Hey. I'm not a fan of either brand as they have made a habit of inflating their numbers and data. The Spider draws 100w and uses high efficacy Samsung diodes while the Mars draws 150W and uses low efficacy diodes. The 150W with low efficacy diodes (very) roughly translates to 100W with good diodes. So 200 "good" watts in a 3x3', 9 sq ft, space. You're definitely not overdoing it in terms of light.
Some growers like to do a simple watts to sq ft estimation. The generally accepted number is 30 watts/sq ft with good diodes. This way of measuring has its faults and is far from perfect but it should give you an idea of what you should aim for.

At 200W over 9 sq ft, you're at 22 watt/sq ft. Not terrible but there's room for improvement. I do see what you grow your plants al natural, so to speak. I'd first try to master LST before adding more light as I think this will benefit your total yield more.

Got an hlg600 rspec in the mail so even at %75 i should be doing much better. Thanks again everybody! I love RIU,ya'll are the best!
be careful in a 3x3 with a 600rspec. You will cook them girls at 75%. 50% is probably still too much for your overall enironment. Keep the light raised high until you get used to it.....or you will be right back here in a couple weeks asking "why are my leaves drooping"

Putting 600 watts of good diodes into 9sq/ft is like adding co2 to unhealthy plants. I would start at 25% , raised a couple foot from the canopy and go up from there.

So even at six feet tall a 3 x 3 is still 9 sq/ft? I totally suck at math and this cubed or squared feet is messing with my old brain. I'll start em off low and see how things go and turn em up accordingly. Super thanks for your input. I just wanna grow good weed.

Dude you aren’t doing your space justice with that light without a 4x4 or a 5x5 tent. You now have plenty of watts for both of those size tents. You’re gonna have to be easy with that light in a 3x3. But I just strongly recommend you get a bigger tent. Your yield will increase exponentially and your power will be about the same. Awesome man. Happy growing!

Well its a 4 x 4 vivo sun with a partition to make a 1 x 1 x 6 veg area so it leaves me with a 3 x 3 x 6. Might have to make it a 4 x 4 .

Can you remove the partition? All due respect that veg area is minimal and if you can remove the divider, veg for 45 days in the 4x4 then flower the 4x4. That’s best for a rookie grower IMO. Thinking about plants in veg, getting those nutes ready, then your flower plants nutes ready, on top of multiple light fixtures and different environmental needs for veg/flower... can be overwhelming. Just my 0.2c. Good luck brother.

A day late but she finally showed up! I've been thinking,im'a keep my veg area. This hlg600 is a beast but it will smoke my mars 1k and spider 1k even at %50.

Start at 25% no matter what. 50% is maxing that area out. 25% will help you to get your feet wet. That light is = to a 1k hps in terms of brightness.

Buddy you aint kiddin! This lights a friggin beast, had to bust out another fan to help but its worth it. Would have been nice to put some markings on the light dial but we'll figure it out. Thanks for the advice friend, will start at 25 and work are way up.
