end of grow question

upload_2016-7-27_15-25-21.jpeghere is the main cola of my 1 plant. it is currently 6 weeks into flower and the seed website says it should flower 9 weeks overall. should i just stick to the 9 weeks or is there something on the plant i should look for to decide when to harvest. also this is my first grow so i was curious to see whether or not experienced growers think this bud looks good.
 
Just remember the nine week thing is just a ball park guestament .....get yourself a loupe so you could look at your trichs .....and depending on what type of smoke you want you read your trichs to know when to chop remember patience ......looks nice. Still got some time left for sure

9 sounds about right., stick to that. Bu t like inda say get that Lupe to make sure. all depends the type of high u want., take a look at this.
 
As or more importantly, don't bother with your trichs until the plant has matured. Meaning all those "hairs" you see on your bud/cola above are white right now, that means you have at least 2-3 weeks to go so checking your trichs at this stage would be a waste of time.

Once the majority of your colas/buds have turned those hairs brown/redish and curled, then keep an eye on the trichs.

Here's a recent pull of one of my buds for reference what I just said.

That chart is very good to follow ...like I mentioned above your 9 weeks are a ball park ....but looking at trichs periodically now will teach you how they develop and mature/change even though you know you have some time to go ....it's still good IMO to look at trichs periodically and learn how they change .....good luck just remember some autos don't go amber just a heads up for future

Don't get caught up on trichome development. The plant should show signs of 'the end'.
From the look of that shoot you still have some calyx growing to do.
You want those things to be swelled up like a grape to where you can hardly see the "hairs".
Forgot the scientific term think it's stamen, but I might be wrong.
 
In addition to all the pointers above, there's one final indicator I use particularly with new strains/phenos that I haven't grown. If I go to water and the soil is still wet it's an indication it's slowing down its uptake and ready to chop.

Excellent advise. I wish I had known about checking the trichs after the buds mature when I started. I looked through that loupe for a month

Maybe back off the nutes a bit. Give her some fresh water if in a soil mix. Then feed lighter. She is showing nutrient burn stress.
 
BTW who doesn't like a Moist Beaver ? :lol:

Here's a shot of me Rotten Banana (Sativa Dom) beauty that is in week 6.
Stretch is done, but calyxes need to swoo' up for me.
Feeding her with nothing but h2o from now until the end.
As shitty as the picture is with the lights off.....zoom in and see her diamonds.

when do you guys like to do the soil flush. ive been adding the end stages if the GO box each watering but wasnt sure when to switch to plain water. and that banana looks amazing.
 
I do a flush even though I'm using organic everything about 2 weeks before the cut down.
This 2/3 of the last times I used an organic terpene booster
And yeah I scored 2 different beautiful pheno's of that strain.
There's her Indica dom sis.....sorry for the LED ON pic,.
You get the point by still seeing trichome coverage by the color difference near the crowns.

This is a really good suggestion and nice nug :)

I heard another oldschool grower once say when asked the same question " how can you tell when a banana is rype to eat? Well it turns a nice healthy yellow and u can just tell it's rype" same principal is sort of applied to weed.

Cheers, yeah after many years of harvesting you just look at it and know when it's done. But for someone new they need to look for other signs to learn to read them. You could check trichs for 30 days if that's all you focus on - lol

Yea and I just like to keep it simple...just asume the strain will finis when they say it will then judge them when they are at their said harvest day. It's fine to go a week longer if you're unsure...it's usually better especially for newbies who are eager to shop. The harvest window is pretty long so don't worry too much OP
