try cfl's. A tomato cage with cfl's poking thru all over the place and a few up top. 10 -13 watt cfl's are only 130 watts and then like 3 24 watters at the top would put you up to about 175 watts. Make sure you get the daylight kind for veg.

If you werent so high, maybe I could comprehend..

ACTUALLY, maybe its me thats too high!! hahahah

Either way, electricity bills will go up but it depends on how many lights you plan on having.

CFL's are a good way to keeping the bill low.

Also, shutting down other appliances when you're not using them such as your computer will help level out your electricity bill.

i run a 400 w hps it raises my bill 15 dollars a month, you tryin to put 8 1000 watters in a single floor home or somthin......... 400w is not that much, i have a space heater that uses 1600w, how do they know you didnt buy a new heater or tv or stereo or a million other appliances. i get 8-10 oz off a 400 watt. plenty to keep me goin

^^^ Exactely! As long as you're adding 1,000 watts or less, at a time, the Electric Co. wont think twice about it. Although, if someone else is paying the bills - they probably will!

Dude, dont stress about power, its not like your running 20 x 1000w a 4 bedroom house. Electricity companies only notice commercial size grows, theres no way in hell they could report a 2 or 3000w difference.

Im running 2500w of HPS, then another 2-3000w of fans and my AC and Im in a 1 bed condo...I pay my bills on time and no one cares.

My elec bills are around 180 for 2 months, without the grow it was like $60-80 every 2 months.

You should be WAY more concerned with other ways of getting busted, like who you tell, Odor....Noone gets busted JUST for using power, pay your bills and your fine.

Good luck

PAY YOUR BILL! you could also have a sub-panel inside the house tapped before your meter. or so i ve heard.
A sub panel would run off of the main panel, you can install a sub panel without having to have the Electric Company come shit off the main.

What your talking about is bypassing the Main panel, and tapping directly into the main source. This is extremely dangerous, usually people who do do this will have former elec company employees helping them. But if you managed to get it done right, free fucking power would be nice!

....Although the $50 000+ fines would be a real bitch if/when you get caught.

I also exhaust my grow room into the flue pipe of the furnace. I just added a 4 inch wye to the flue and vented the ehaust to it. That way, if they look at my house through a thermal imager, all of the heat is escaping where it should.

I have an idea...because i live in an all electric home...i figured that i will fork over some cash up front and change all the major lights in my house to 2-3 watt cfl...if u havent already changed ur lighting to cfl's..u will be surprised at the watts on theose incandescent lights(in my house..i seen 95 watt,60,45....so much energy).....so by changing the lights to 2-3 watt cfl..u can run a low end set-up and save money

there's 4 people living in our house. 3 of has laptops on all day, 1 big tv, 1 small tv, water usage is about at least 5 showers, other electronics, and finally the lights(about 250w of cfl. costs us like $180 a month

im an electrician, so believe me when I tell you that unless your planning on using 5 1000 watt hps lights...big exhaust fans...ect...ect...your not at risk for making the utility company suspicious....people get to paranoid...so unless your growing a ware house full of weed...dont worry about it....good luck man...

Exactly. Pay your bills on time and the power company will sell you as much power as you want. The only way they will show up is if they think your using a ridiculous amount of power, and that it must be a problem with the meter or your elec system.

Im running 1-1000watt HPS with 2 -400cfm fans and hydro heater and pump and a large air pump. Im not sure of the extra power im using yet but what i have done is made the rest of the family start shutting off lights and TV's when there not using them. Bathroom fans and such. Insted of turning on the living room lights which are 8-100watt recess lights i use a small light in the rear of the room and its much nicer watching the TV and im sure its saving power. Ive put dimmer switches on my kitchen recess lights which are also 800watts worth. I figure every little bit helps.

With taht equipment you are looking at 360 kwh for the light and probably 30-40 more for fans etc so say 400kwh a month extra on the bill. Now ... find your power bill and figure how much you are paying per kwh. Should be between 5-15 cents per. At 10 cents per you are looking at an extra $40 on your bill. Not shit really. Smoke a :joint: and don't worry about the power on a small (Less than 5000 watts or so) op.

lmao...im a master electrician...and i like your thinking...hit it on the power company side...or nothing else...depending on how old your meter is, you used to be able to flip the meter to run the usage back down some...but the new meters wont let you...i got a couple spare 200amp jumpers kits out there in the truck...lol

Yeah depending on where you are, most companies are upgrading to digital meters.

But if you got an older house, you could have a nice game of Russian roulette. Just start cutting wires when theres a power outage, and hope it doesnt come back on before your done!
