Effectiveness of de-odorizing gel?

Hey guys I'm trying to keep costs down until I gain more growing experience. So I was considering

Duct fan + de-odorizing gel

instead of

inline fan + carbon filter.

Do you all think that would be sufficient? I have a 4 northern lights in a 4x4 tent and from what I hear they are supposed to be a low-odor strain. All advice appreciated.

PS I did read the thread where some of you said duct fans were really weak but I wanted to know if it could be sufficient just for this first grow

I've done it all....the gel will work well in very small spaces, such as a closet. I don't believe it will be effective in your situation, outside the tent. Gel's are expensive and dry up quickly too. Look at a small Big Blue inline device for effective exhaust odor control.

Imagine 4-6 ounces of weed spread out on the kitchen table. Low smell or not it'll stink the room up.

Half way through flower isn't the time to find out how much the plants will stink. You can build a box filter from carbon AC filters. Gel won't stop the smell coming out a fan. It's gotta be passed through carbon. Use gel for the scent that escapes the carbon.

Hmmm...the Big Blue Air Ozonator seems to be even more expensive than carbon filters. Maybe I should stick with a carbon filter after all

Most carbon filters only last around 6 months to be really effective. The Big Blue will last forever, other then changing out the bulbs once every couple of years. It is also lighter, and more adaptable in certain situations. You only need a small one, and you can find really good prices if you shop around.
