you are potentially gonna gro thousands of dollars in smoke. Why go with the cheapest meter you can find?

Seriously, I've been there, tried that. Go with the bluelab truncheon and never buy another meter again.

my two cents.

bluelab, bluelab bluelab.

cheap meters will fuck you in the end, everytime. Maybe not today maybe not this month but sooner or later.

The worst part is as a new grower you won't know wtf is wrong with your plants. when all along it's the meter.

good luck with your decision. I know dropping a c-note on a meter seems like a lot. It's really not when you think about it. You spend hundreds on bulbs, lights, fertilizer, medium and such. Why not ensure your levels are correct.

I had a thread about this awhile ago. Lots of people recommended the cheap ones. I was originally going to get a bluelab.... But they said no so I didn't. I may still get it anyways. Here's the one I was going to get.

I would like to hear what you think.

If it says bluelab on it. It's solid. Five year warranty. Good stuff. Noone else offers this. They stand by their product.

as far as the tri meter is concerned. I'm not really a fan of tri meters. I prefer to have a meter that is dedicated solely to one purpose. Although that one looks very nice. The thing with tri meters is If (god forbid) something happens to it you are out completely until you get it warrantied/replaced, and if it was operator error ie dropping it or something you fucked for 260$ With the individual meters you are more flexible.

For Ec/ppm I recommend the truncheon. Dead nuts simple and reliable. It reads in all ppm scales as well as ec. Never ever ever needs calibrated....ever. Like there is no calibration screw even.. for less than a bill. How much better can that get eh?

for ph I'd get one of these
I calibrate mine every couple of weeks or so, but only because i'm anal. I actually just broke the bulb on mine the other day and am waiting on a new one to come now. Also less than a bill. a very good investment imo.

So you recommend this? I'd rather get all the meters I need at one time. I'm in soil, not hydro I don't think I'm going t switch either. I like soil.

that ph meter is the exact one I have. As far as the ec goes. Like I said I like the truncheon. but since you are in dirt I probably wouldn't mess with an ec meter at all.

Man I didn't realize I had to have one of those.:wall:...do you think my plants will be ok??? I've never had one. I checked my water with PH strips and it was 6.6 constant, so I just add nutes to my systyem (I have an auto watering system hooked to a sprinkler timer, with an airiator in the tank) And I think the fuckers are dying......lmfao...I don't use a meter, I read my plants..lol...

and it looks like you are a good reader. NICE!

edit: not everyone has the experience to look at a plant and read what it needs.

but rinky has a point. In dirt meters are really not necessary. Maybe a ph meter if you don't wanna mess around with strips. But ec....not really at all imo

Yea its my first attempt. Im using soil. So no EC needed?

Im just thinking about this because i had 5 plants and 4 of them r DEAD :-( and i think i did everything as i was recommended or read in guides here.
I contacted the water works to get their values: water ph: 7,8
I know its the wrong value, but soil has some good buffer capcacity, doesn it?
But has this the potential: 4 week everything ok, but then boom they die like flies squashed to the wall?
I already ordered a ph meter.

I wouldn't worry about ec too much in dirt. When in doubt use less nutes. Pretty good rule of thumb.

and listen guys. When you get your new ph meters make sure you keep fresh storage solution in the cap. THis is very important. It will say on the packaging of the bluelabs. "if it dries it dies" this is referring to the bulb. You must keep it hydrated.

edit: PH is veryyyy important. get it right things will probably fall in line for you

good luck
