Ebay LED vs PG90 ??

Was interested in getting a PG90 for a small single plant stealth closet cab, but i'm on a tight budget . Take a look at this Ebay LED http://www.ebay.ca/itm/90W-FIVE-BAN...ltDomain_2&hash=item2c6219b560#ht_2869wt_1396 , which is more bang for my buck here? The ebay unit is significantly cheaper than the hydroponics hut unit, which is a huge attraction, and the specs look decent (UV&IR, 6th gen)... But I have heard killer reviews from the Pro Grow LED line and could possibly be willing to shell out the extra dough :D Which would be a better buy in your opinion? Remember 1 plant scrog:P
 
It's a Chinese no name brand that probably doesn't use "Bridge Lux" diodes and the performance is unknown and probably shit, meaning you'll use too much electricity to create lousy light. The cheapest you should go with is a Blackstar, so call Gotham Hydroponics and talk to them. They're notorious for giving discounts on panels so they may have a Model 90w for you. Otherwise your cheapest bet would be:

I mean PG's are great too but if you want to try to save some coin then try these ideas. Good Luck.
 
If ur on a budget dude honestly I'd go with a 150 hps. I got mine used for $50 and can grow 6 plants in 1 gal pots 12/12 from seed. They're easy enough to cool in a small area as well. My blackstar runs a few degrees cooler than the 150 but cost 6 times as much. Check the first 2 links in my sig to see what you can do with a 150.
 
The PG would crush that. I've had no name LED lights and have since sold them (the ones that didn't die after 6 months). Pay more for the PG its worth it. That's all I use and you're backed by a 3 year warranty.

UFO's are usually good for about 1sq/ft. For 16"x16" I'd look at a BS135 or even BS180 (might be overkill) or PG180 (would DEFINITELY be overkill but would be amazing for that small area).

You get away with the PG90, but I can almost guarantee you'll want something bigger after about 2 months.... save yourself the time, energy, and effort - buy a PG180 and you will get amazing results.

It is 40 diodes that would produce 3w per if driven to max capacity. The thing most consumers don't know (and I'm sure most unscrupulous companies are happy to keep it this way) is diodes on LED lights are not driven to full capacity.

To elaborate - a 3w diode will be driven to roughly 2.1 (ish) watts of total output. This is what ensures the longevity of the lamp and why you have blackstar lights advertised as 240w and only pull in the 140 range. Same thing to a certain extent with the PG lights, although the advertised figure is a lot closer to the actual output - the PG 180 pulls about 160w of actual power.

The light in that link will probably pull around 80-90w of power when measured by a wattage meter. You should know that before you buy (I personally would not buy this). It's pretty much the same output as a UFO, in fact maybe less. There are some 45 X 3w diode UFOs on the market for 2012 that may boast a larger output figure.

To be honest Pro Grow is the only way to go from what i'm reading, I absolutely LOVE the veg/bloom switch on the 180w+ models . I'm gonna start saving bank on it but I don't think ill be pulling anything off I live with my parents and would have to pull off a stealth grow :s And anything less than PG180 isn't worth it, I'll only be able to do one plant. Won't be growing for years:(
 
If you had to grow in your rents place, I'd do a PC grow with CFL's....

Spend like $200-300 bucks on a kick ass PC case that's built by someone who knows what they're doing, can make light traps, and wire it properly.... unless you know how to do all that and have the ability to do so without your rents finding out.
 
BS180 - about 105-110W actual draw
BS135 - about 70-75W actual draw

I haven't Kill-a-watt'd these numbers, but BS usually powers their LED's at around 1.7-1.9W per LED....
 
Eeeeek! You have just finalized my decision to never get a blackstar Beef :D
I actually have a PC grow box atm but i'm selling it because it would not grow sufficient crops for my liking, even though I'm living with my parents I feel I can pull off something a little bigger. I wonder what the yield is like from a single plant under one of those PG90s... That's what I was banking on

Hello, old post, I know. Just wondering if you & your peeps would like to see a new Hydroponics Hut light review journal? It's going against the Amare SE-450, so good luck to it but equal wattage draw & HH has updated their tech. I'm hoping for the best. I'll also be running the new SunCloak vertical system. My plants are healthy & I alwYs get big yields off my HPS @ 600w a plant. Hoping the HH does well so it's not wasted money. They don't tell you shit over there. Ok, peace! Hope to see you at my thread.
