Eb gen2 vs gen3

So I can get the GEN 2 strips cheap as hell right now compared to the GEN 3 which are quite a bit more expansive.

I know newer tech is usually better but would you still consider purchasing the Gen 2 at a good deal?

I mean I can buy enough Gen 2 strips for a 4x4 tent right now for $160 Canadian

Thanks guys. Looking to move away from my 600w air cooled HPS. Find every time the light shuts down the temp drops quite a lot and the humidity spikes which I think contributed to a PM outbreak my last run.

Hoping an led will help with the heat and subsequent temp swings at lights out

My general bang for buck rule is: if going down a gen or bin means i can buy twice as many chips then i go one down. Usually the efficiency gain on halving power is around 10% and bins are usually 7ish %. But even if its the same theres additional savings in lower junction temprature, better spread allowing for lower hanging height, twice as much max power etc.
Just make sure youre starting with a decent chip line so that you dont hit diminishing returns so soon that all the extra connection work is not worth it.

Midpowers seem to have nominal around .2w if you run them there or below youre going to have much an eaiser and durable build.

YMMV :)

Good response. Thank you.

I feel the Gen 2 are now in the price range where I can build a decent fixture that will be an upgrade over my HPS and make climate control more manageable. For me that’s a win alone. Not looking so much for power savings at this time
