have been drying my buds for about 10 days now, after 2 small test harvests each of them have ended up smelling like sweet hay. all of em have ended in that way because i feel like i didnt give my buds enough dry time would jar with stem too flimsy, this time im waiting till they crack no matter what. decided to give them a manicure on the 10th day figured it would smell like hay, it did on the outside but once i started getting in there that dank stinky nose burning smells was hiding in between the buds, was wondering if anyone trims and puts them back in their hanging setup setup? and if this is something to avoid until the day theyre to be put in jars,i still probably have about 3 or 4 more days i hope till the stemp snaps and i can put them in jars. i hope to god this time they dont end up smelling like that stupid hay shit getting so annoyed . do you think me trimming them a couple days before jarring is going to effect the smell? i dried this time in a small grow tent at about 60% rh n about 55 temp

You can trim if you want it to dry quicker. I personally cure em with it but it's a bigger risk to mold if something goes wrong. I like putting a fan over the opening for 5/15 of the minutes I open it every day. Do that for up to three weeks for max potency, and storing them in jars in general will help it more. Stay lifted

To early to jar does cause alfalfa smell/taste IMO, every strain is a little different as well, it's all about loosing the chlorophyll burping facilitates that, dank oily diesel comes back quicker than a light citrus smell, I jar the small stemmed smaller buds a couple days before the larger buds come online...

its odd that after ten days they aren't ready to go in the jar.
i use a small tent as well, have a humidistat hooked to a small humidifier, keep the tent at 65% rh, and between 65 and 70 degrees. takes 5 or 6 days to get just short of stem snapping, which is where i like to jar.i put a small hygrometer in the jar with the weed, and burp for an hour daily till they get down to 62% rh. after three or four days in the jar, they start to develop a good funk, the longer they stay in the jar, the funkier they get

At 60% humidity it seems like they never get dry. Lots of people feel that is the perfect range. I would suggest drying at 50% humidity so it will actually feel dry at some point.

the faster you dry, the less time the chemical changes that need to occur, have time to happen. chlorophyll needs time to break down, sugars and starches need time to break down. if you don't give them that time, you get harsh, bad tasting weed that leaves black ash. all the stuff that people blame on not flushing, actually comes from poor drying and curing practices.
