Just wanted to start a journal for my current grow.. ive got 5 early misty plants going that are currently 4 days in the dirt... my setup is small.. im using a 50/50 bled of MG potting soil and some other cheap potting soil. i grow for personal stash only. im going to veg for about 3 weeks than flower to keep em short. i use 3 100 watt cfls.. ive taken pictures everyday which i will continue to do and post em every 4 days or so.

quick update.. i got pics for day 5-6 ... in the last pics ive switched the 3rd plant over to the first position to get a little more air from the fan.. its stem was looking weak.. i had an experiment plan in there that died yesterday.. no big deal... and the 4th plant is probably gunna die soon too.. it doesnt get enough light.. my light is really only good for 3 plants, so if it dies i dont care, i just want to focus on my 3 good plants. the big plants second set of leaves is coming out real nice as u can see.. i just gave em a good watering so hopefully there will be alot of growth today...

this morning when i turned the lights on the leaves on 2 of the plants were pointing upward .. does that mean they are stretching for the light?? should i move em alittle closer? heres a pic.. look at the first plant and tell what u think..

I think its normal for them to be kinda pointing up at first, but yeah, you wanna have the lights as close as you can without burning them.

its weird that the 2 plants that have the lights right above them have their leaves pointing up because they get the most light.. look at the group shot.. the middle plant looks normal to me.. but the others are pointed up.

does anyone know why they are doing this? or is it normal.

within 4 inches or so.. it could have something to do with the fan? the fan air comes in from the left side and i just switched the first and third plant.. the third wasnt getting enough air flow so i switched the 2... i dont know.. im having a hard time believing its the lights cause those 2 plants have there own 40 watt cfl right above them and the middle plant just shares those lights... the other light in the pic is a 20watt cfl.

what are temps like?

See if you can get the lights closer than 4 inches, you should be able to...

i think i might have figured it out today.. i had my clfs pointing straight at the plants.. i turned the lights on there sides today and put the plants about 2 inches away.. temps are mid to low 80's.. so we'll see what happens, if this doesnt work im going to re think my lighting and maybe build a new light system, adding a few more cfls.. ill post back tomorrow with pics and see what happens

yup yup yup CFL's do best on their sides rather than going straight up an down, more light.
Mid to low 80's is a little higher than you really wanna be, but my first grow I was mostly in the mid 80's, sometimes getting into the 90's, and it survived. (true it didn't do good, but it did survive!)

Whats your intake/exhaust setup like?

blows air IN to the growbox?
I'd set it up with a passive intake, meaning use the fan for EXHAUST, and just leave 1 or 2x the area of the exhaust open (holes or whatever) and have the air be sucked into the box by the exhaust fan blowing the air OUT.
A lot more efficient and I bet it will bring your temps down a lot!

Radioshack has a few good options, in my PC case I use for veg'ing I've got two Thermaltake "Thunderblade" 80mm fans from Radio Shack, about 10 bucks ea., rated at 27.8 cfm @ 21dBA which isn't really too loud, and for my flowering box (closer to the size of your setup it looks like) I've got two 120mm fans from Radio Shack (Thermaltake as well I believe), I forget the specs, but two of them keep 180w of CFL's between 70* and 80* while blowing through DIY carbon filters, and pricewise I think they were right around 15 bucks each. VERY quiet, too.

are they pc fans? is so how do u set them up? and you have them hooked up so they take the air inside through the carbon?

i thinkwhen the plant points up it is because the soil is drying out to fast and the plant is trying to save water? im a total noob but i think i read that somewhere
