Dwc seedling

Hello, first post here. Ive searched all over for answers. Posted in other places and can't get an answer to why my seedling looks the way it does. First time trying dwc. Ph5.8-6.0 started at ppm of 200, now at ppm of 500. according to the nutes schedule I should be in the 500-600 range. Air temp 70-80. Water temp 60-70. Two small air pumps. Using rapid rooter and hydrocon. Lighting is two 100w cfl cool white. And two 100w led warm white.

Pic from yesterday changed to 500ppm on SundayIMG_20180903_102134.jpg IMG_20180903_102223.jpg

From Friday ppm 200

You were burning the hell out of it at 200 ppm, so you upped it to 500 ppm? For a tiny seedling? Overfed and thus, burnt! You don't follow what it says on the bottle, you follow the plant!
Well that is unfortunate. It didn't appear to be the type of nute burn I've seen before.... This is the chart I'm looking at, should I not follow it?Screenshot_20180901-204434.png

Those numbers seem quite high! Maybe under top notch lighting, maybe, but even then, it seems high, 900 ppm week 1? The symptoms i'm seeing of the plant, is she's not getting calcium. I don't do dwc, and never used cal-mag, so can't help you with dosages, but to me, and it's consistent with tomato and pepper plants, is a calcium deficiency.

I was possibly thinking calcium. I read that when pH goes up it will separate from the water and I have white deposit on my air stones. I guess it possible my pH meter is bad but I used some test strips and it seemed in line.... In fox farm other line of nutes they have a calmag bottle that I thought about using. I'll try and drip my pH some more and add calcium and calmag.

The FoxFarm Line has Cal / Mag issues from my experience. I personally grow in soil and overcome it by amending the soil but when I first starting having the issue I started adding Sensi Cal Mag Xrta 4-0-0 to every other feeding at a rate of 3 ML per gal. Just remember that it has nitogen in it and to account for the rise in TDS meaning if I was you I would dial back on the grow big so you don't burn the plant

Edit - I would like to add that I never give my seedlings over 200 ppm TDS until the cotyledons fall off

100w CFL?....... or "100watt equivalent" ? (23-27w)

100w LEDs? Or "100watt equivalent" ? (~18w)

Cuz..... from the pics it seems like you are trying to make an easy bake oven...... a desk lamp bulb or two, some tin foil.........

Dont sprout your seedling in DWC. It gets too waterlogged. Get a germination tray, or even just some dixie cups w/ a clear cover.... (high humidity, moist, but not wet rooting cube)

Once the roots are well sprouted move it to the DWC @ 200-300ish (thats assuming RO + calmag+nutes)

No nutes before theres roots!! It burns the tiny frail baby roots at that age.

Get a (real) grow light, and FFS get that tin foil the hell out of there, its not a potato! (Tin foil reflects light... but poorly... and it also reflects HEAT.... its like surrounding your plant with magnifying glasses.... lights gonna focus n burn spots.)

For just the seedling/veg phase, I am a fan of the 125watt flourowing combos from Amazon (they also accept 250w bulbs) One small fan keeps temps low, and its powerful enough to veg a decent plant. (you are only getting ~1-2" of light penetration at best, so one ur plant grows, only the very outside layer is going to grow/flower. Its not just watts n lumens, those are just numbers... its about light color and light intensity.)

Also remember, the water level, with air stone running, should never actually TOUCH your rooting cube.

It just gets splashed, never actually in the water. The roots will reach for it, its what they do.

And there are two (2) places you NEVER get growing advice, and both for the same reason...

Nutrient producers, and and growshops (nutrient sellers)

Both just want to sell you more product. Every bottled nute I have ever heard of at BEST you start at 1/2 the "suggested" dosage.... but the fact is, the roots and plant size will always be the only thing that can determine the appropriate nute strength.

Looks more like a mutant than burning to me.

I start my clones etc for DWC at 300ppm using RO water. 1ml/L each of AN 3 part makes 300.

That FF nute chart like most aims too high so I never follow their directions.

This was taken 9/6/18 at 3:00 central time. Added some lime. Only thing local I could for Cal mag.
I am using the watt equivalent bulbs I said two of each bulb. People veg under cfl only.
I do have a 600w hps/mh but dont think I need that much for early veg stage.

I didn't sprout it in the dwc. It was in two water bottles cut in half for humidity dome type thing. Water is not touching the bottom of the cup... Roots are coming out the bottom of the cup.
I was trying to use the aluminum foil to keep light off the bucket to keep the water cooler. I have made some adjustments to the foil put acuact insulation around the entire bucket.

I have grown in soil, and been successful. I have done a bunch of research on dwc just wanna keep this thing alive.

What strain is this? I only ask because I had some bag seeds that came out all crazy like this, Every fan leaf only had 3 points and they never produced any good smoke. I would wait and see what happens but don't waste your money on trying to save it

It's strawberry ice from ams. I do have another seedling started. Cause I didn't think this one was gonna make it. If this one does survive I'm gonna give the new seedling to my buddy. This one could be a dud, it took a bit longee to sprout in the napkin vs other ones of the same strain and other stains.

You did good by removing the tinfoil. I will say this though; that little thing is most likely not capable of processing a 500 ppm nutrient mix, and the lime you added probably isn't going to help your cause. If you think you need calcium, you should get proper calcium for use in a hydro set up. If you have another seedling, you may just want to cut your losses, learn from this present situation and get back on track. Aside from a little shriveled seedling; what do you have to lose? FYI...lots of folks veg under CFL's and flower under HID's, with fantastic results. While a CFL isn't as efficient as some other lighting options, they do and will work just fine for veg. Good luck friend.

Thank you very much. I have cal-mag on the way. This little guy is starting to look like it has nute burn. It's definitely not getting better. Looks like I will cut my losses. I also ordered a fresh set of fox farm dirty dozen nute kit. I'm thinking it's possible I didn't shake the old ones well at some point during the last grow.

Sounds like you're moving in the right direction. Don't kid yourself; anyone who's screwed around with cannabis, plants, animals and just general agriculture have definitely had their issues. Farming is not for sissies. You'll get better as you go, provided you stop, think and make small, logical steps to fix your problems. Learn from your experiences and don't give up.

This is the new seedling. I decided to put it in soil to try n let it grow then take clones. These seeds we're pretty expensive so I would think they would have good genetics. I went ahead and gave up on the one from above. IMG_20180914_213833.jpg IMG_20180914_213725.jpg IMG_20180914_213833.jpg IMG_20180914_213836.jpg

I'm new to growing but something is very wrong with this new seedling as well. She looks very unhappy and mutated. You should never give up until they actually die IMO tho! They seem to be very hardy plants and can bounce back.
