DWC: Day 30 of Flower PH dropping to 5.0 for NO reason

I thought i had issues when i switched my nutrient line

Turns out the ph range is just opposite.

As in normally i would set ph to 5.8 and let it rise to 6.3

Now i start at 6.3 and let it fall to 5.8 works awsome as i dont even need ph down much anymore.

Cause if you add enough ph down to make it 5.8 right off the bat it will PLUMMET to 5 by the next day.:)

So whats the worse case scenario if the plants ph keeps dropping to 5.0??? On day 35 of 12/12 now and buds look big, very very small amounts of defincenty in a couple leaves.

Yup take it slow on the PH change and let the roots do the work, less PH up or Down the better. Plus my water is extra hard with spring run off right now at 260ppm. takes a shit ton of PH Down to move it even a little lol.
What u mean take it slow with the ph?? Don't PH up to 6.0, just let them stay at 5.0??

Haha I'm basically an expert, but shit goes wrong. These original clones were very weird and had 3 internoids each level instead of 2.. I'm not sure what ph is after nutes before ph down. I know ph out of the faucet is 7.4

1st time I ever grew rez times were too high and I got stunted growth... Plant is feeding buds look like they are getting fuller.

Ok, so water level is dropping (they are still drinking) ppm was static at approx 1000 (until you added water to drop the EC) and pH is dropping -correct?
Do you adjust your pH last after adding nutes etc? Do you use a pH down when you make up your res? What is your starting pH and how fast does it drop to ph of 5.0?
HydroRed 1 of the plants maintained the ph overnight. I got a 5.9 reading, the other plant is still dipping to 5.0

This may help you more than I could since you know best what your entire scenario is. I dont remember where I got this so I cant give credit where its due, but this is a pretty good basic guide that should help to keep most out of trouble with their plants and res values.
If you are dealing with multiple individual reservoirs, you better get good :bigjoint:

Water Level EC/PPM pH Reading

Static Static Static - Plant not feeding/drinking, change EC, check meters. Usually, lowering the EC a little should get the plant feeding again
Static Static Rising - Ph buffers probably raising ph. This is usual. Having a static water level is not though, so again, a slight reduction in EC or a res change should resolve this.
Static Static Falling - Usual cause of this is when media has been rinsed at a lower ph than you require. The other possibility is that too much CO2 has been pumped into the water. See Note 1.Change your res and look at the volume of air pumped plus look at your air source.
Static Rising Static - Plant is leeching nutrition, raise EC. Note 2
Static Rising Rising- Plant leeching nutrition, Raise EC. An unusual state. The rising ph is probably caused by what nutrient leeching back. If these are alkaline, it will lead to the rise in ph. Could also be ph buffers.
Static Rising Falling - As above but be aware of the acid rain effect mentioned in note 1. Res change, plus increase in EC.
Static Falling Static - Plant eating but not drinking. Not ideal. Lower EC or res change
Static Falling Rising - As above but rising ph is a better sign. Lower EC slightly or res change.
Static Falling Falling- Falling ph along with falling EC but no drop in water level suggests a res change. Could also be an acid rain effect as per note 1. Depending on other symptoms, lowering EC after res change.
Falling Static Static- Perfect conditions. EC and ph are at the correct level.
Falling Static Rising- Normal state most people encounter. Nothing to worry about, carry on doing what you are doing unless other plant symptoms.
Falling Static Falling- Res change plus a change of EC. Lower EC if over 1.4, raise EC if lower than 1.0
Falling Rising Static- Plant is drinking more than eating, lower EC.
Falling Rising Rising- Plant is drinking more than eating, lower EC
Falling Rising Falling- Plant is drinking more than eating, lower EC. Also, res change due to possible acid rain problem.
Falling Falling Static- Hungry plant, raise EC. Very good situation to be in. Nute buffers are working and plant is taking a balance of nutrients.
Falling Falling Rising- Almost as above, usually considered almost perfect, raise EC slightly.
Falling Falling Falling- Res change. Potential acid rain issue but plant is still eating & drinking. Raise EC on new res.

Most of my Rez's hold about 6 gallons of water, bc I do 1 plant per tent most of the time. When its near a rez change (about 10 days) the rez sometimes has less than 2 gallons in it and my ph will be on spot still.... What happens if the plant is drinking, but its drinking 5.0 ph water?? My plant(s) seem to be going through the normal stages of maturing and buds getting bigger.

Something to keep in mind is usually the lower the EC and the lower the water amount, the more pH fluctuation your going to experience. Low EC means less buffers in the water to help keep the pH static. A constant low pH will affect yield and quality both. Extreme low pH will hinder the plants usually within days in hydro. They may still "live" but they wont thrive.

Both plants have now went back to norm ph levels of 5.8-6.0.. Looking back at my grow log, some of my plants ph crash for a few days around the 30-35 day of 12/12 mark. These 2 were of of wack for about 10 days.

Low EC means less buffers in the water to help keep the pH static. A constant low pH will affect yield and quality both. Extreme low pH will hinder the plants usually within days in hydro. I'm beginning to think its my city's water. I have another plant that just started doing this around day 25 of flower, just like the previous plants. Someone mentioned to me this and said we got a lot of rain recently, does this make sense and happen??

Where Im at, my municiple water doesnt flucuate much for ppm at all, but from summer months to winter months it will fluctuate a whole point from 6.8-7.8
Hard to help with no pics though.

Could different minerals or something gotten into the city water bc of all the rain we had? And why is it doing it around day 25 of flower??

You can check the ppm of the water before adding anything and compare it to what it was a week or two ago. If its higher, then you have your answer.
Take notes of what your tap ppm is from week to week so if there is an issue, you can reflect back to your notes.
What can I do about it?? Used RO?? Filter my water through Brita or something??
I honestly cant be of much help to you without knowing what it looks like or seeing pics. A picture says 1000 words.

You can check the ppm of the water before adding anything and compare it to what it was a week or two ago. If its higher, then you have your answer.
Take notes of what your tap ppm is from week to week so if there is an issue, you can reflect back to your notes.


I honestly cant be of much help to you without knowing what it looks like or seeing pics. A picture says 1000 words.
There is really not much to see. Plant looks fine at day 25... The other 2 plants are on day 50 that I was having problems with and the 1 shows no deficiency's and the other 1 shows very minor deficiency's like on less than 5 leaves.. If the leaves show no deficiency's does that mean the plant will grow normal?
