Thanks for the words of encouragement LT. I am going to get this grow completely tweaked and perfected real soon. Going to need it to be completely done for when the 20/4 cycles are needed.

In any news how's your grow going? Didn't you move your stuff outside?

I've read through your entire grow because I'm doing something similar, just in a huge Sterilite tub. Was planning on 12 cfl's in one though, and im sure as you know thats a loooot of heat to work with in a plastic tub, stacked with the outdoor temperatures of 105degrees. So I bought a sheet of plexiglass today at osh, and I cut it with a box cutter. Just line up a straight edge, and slice down hard like 5 or 6 times along the line, and make sure the cuts are deepest along the edges. Then just snap it off, worked fine for me.

Gonna install the plexiglass tomorrow, and hopefully it'll keep my tub separate from the lights well enough.

Also, I started germing seeds like 4 days ago, this is my first grow. I put them in the peat pellets last night, and still none popped out. how long do you think it'll be till they start to show? I have 3 Ice, 1 California Hash, and 1 Wonder Woman germing right now

Can't wait to find out if your plexi glass lowered your temperature significantly. Cant waittt itll winter

some seeds are just slow as hell bro...i got seeds from nirvana and my super skunk took 7 days to pop outta the peat when i started germ less then 48 hours ago and i got seedlings from my bag seeds i started just yesterday morning...they are in perlite in a jiffy dome instead of my peat pellets..i dont like them

Well I started mine in a paper towel. They cracked open within a day or 2. I checked out your grow and I have the same dome you have, I just put all my cracked seeds into the jiffy peat pots and under the dome with 4 cfls shining on it. Been like 36 hours and nothings showing yet, hoping they show by 2moro morning.

yah thats why id ont like the peat i think its to moist really, its just not good by itself it needs soil to hold it together and drain it of its moisture or something...

Thanks for stopping by my grow journal guys. Got a huge up date with several pics! Hayden is stinking like none other right now. I got actually got one unit installed with plexiglass!! AI#4 and 5 still have not poked their head out of the soil yet...but MZ#2 and MZ#3 are doing great. Still have not been able to sex AI#3. As the days have went by though I will say I am leaning more towards male, which will give me a horrid 1/4 female to male ratio. I will retain my faith for now, but I have decided to go with feminized seeds next time.

Getting down to business:

Current Temp: 84F@ Tops
Current Humidity: 50%

Hayden -- [18 days/flowering] Looking great. Getting harder and harder to LST her. She has grown quite strong and flexible. Stinks of a fruity lemon smell. Leaves have yet to darken and buds grow denser by the day.

AI#3 -- Looks as to be flowering, but has clusters of balls on each node. I have several pictures in this update, please help me sex this one. Like I said before I am leaning more towards male, but really need an affirmation.

MZ#2 & 3 -- Still small. Working on second set of fan leaves. a bit taller than how the AI's start out.

I was finally able to get a straight piece of plexiglass cut. I went to Home Depot and the salesman suggested a hook type razor for scoring. *It was actually right above the plexiglass @Home Depot*. This instrument works perfectly, but you have to use the 'hook-side'. It works similar to an ice scrapper but with a blade. Only bad news is after I perfected this method my plexiglass was destroyed and only got one piece. So gotta go buy some more plexiglass. Thanks for all the suggestions and advise on this issue, hope this helps someone else with the same problem.

Having some trouble with AI#4 & 5. They germd with in 24 hours yet once in soil they ceased growing. They have laid dormant for 5 days now. To answer your question, Zarezhu, I would use the 7 day method. I, luckily, can compare these two to my first two and know I have waited to long. It's a bit harder starting out, but I'd say 7 - 10 days is safe. I am going to throw these two away at the 7 1/2 day mark if I see no progress.

Sexing AI#3 has proven quite hard. It seems there are ball clusters, but I also see hairs coming out of the cola. Could this one be hermi? I really need some help so I took a bunch of pics.

1. AI#3 -- 2-3 days ago. Ball cluster closeup.
2. AI#3 -- 2-3 days ago. Ball cluster.
3. AI#3
4. MZ#2 & 3
5. Hayden the angel. 2-3 days ago.
6. Hayden. 2-3 days ago.
7. One of Hayden's bud sites. 2-3 days ago.
8. Top of Hayden. 2-3 days ago.
9. "" ""
10. '' ''
11. Case after plexiglass installation.
12. Hayden. Her buds are all over that lucky plexiglass.
13. AI#3, current. In red is the cluster balls, and in blue is with I think are hairs.
14. Case shot.
15. MZ#2
16. MZ#3

Zarezhu, Congrats on reading my grow journal. I do hope it has helped or influenced you toward a great growing experience. As for your grow send me a link I would love sub to it. I will say that 12 CFLs is a lot of heat, but anything can be done. I do have some really good news for you. I just got done with my fourth hour temp reading experiment and they read like this:

*you might have picked up my 87-92F temp patterns*

1130 -- 78F@tops
1230 -- 84F@tops
130 -- 84F@tops
230 -- 82F@tops

:)

So it seems to have worked for me. Because not only did I install plexiglass today I also installed another 30W BULB!!! This means I am pushing 90W now which was my ultimate goal guys!

To finish up though I would like to see your grow, and strains. And like LT said some do develop a bit slower, so be patient but not over patient.

Questions:

1) With fem seeds the only thing you have to worry about is hermie plants right? Also, what is the ratio of these if so?

2) Is AI#3 a male?

3) Still got 6 bud sites and a cola on Hayden, any budgestimates yet?

Talk to you guys later!

Well guys, quick update. Got some company over for the next few days so I wont be able to update so much. However, I did get to sneak some pics tonight and I'll post 'em tomorrow. Seems like after a bit of research, I got a hermie on my hands. This kinda makes me question the quality of my seeds yet again, but there is obviously balls hanging there, and yet hairs coming out of the cola and some nodes. This plant was under little stress, or so I thought anyways. Hayden is doing fine, but being at prime time I am going to have to rip Herman up real damn soon. Might have a piece of plexiglass left that will fit the 2nd unit so i am happy about that. MZ#2 is working up a little set of fan leaves, and after I rip out the hermie Ill be able to move them closer to the light. MZ#3 might have suffered a human mistake. I impatiently and accidentally ripped off her seed shell. I think this has stunned her, because she is not showing anything other than the first baby leaves. Hope I didn't killer her now, actually. But either way, this will allow me an open unit so I will be able to order my fem seeds sooner. So that will be quite a relief. I think I have decided on Dr. Chronic. Never heard bad results from them and they do larger quantities for cheaper than attitude. I will say though with the fem autos, you don't have many strain choices.

Going to try to update some more tomorrow night. One of my lights went out too. Gotta order more now :(

did you order Fem seeds? i hope not your ratio is bad bad bad if so....

next time i would go with a Fem pack , you could be smoking by now!

maybe think about mother boxing one of your box's instead of a veg box

perpetuals go smoother with clones then seeds

I just read up on fdd's little guide to breeding. take the male outdoors, get some pollen from it, then try to make yourself some oil out of the rest of the male plant. take a brush and brush a little pollen over just 1 bud on a female plant, that bud will bear you quite a few seeds for freeeee. That always excited me.

Got my tub up and running right now. With only 6 cfl's its at 92.5 max. if i add 6 more, it's gonna be alll bad. im kinda worried about that.

On a brighter note, I bought a 10 pack of Homegrown Fantaseeds indoor mix, and I germed 4. They germed in like 12 hours!! I put them directly into soil this time (last 6 seeds i tried to germ into peat pellets never sprouted) and within a day all 4 heads are poking outa the soil! This excited me, so I'm germing 2 more ice and 1 fem wonder woman. hopefully outa 6 reg seeds i get 3 females and the wonder woman in the tub. Just worried about heat. It's like 100 degrees outside, and its gonna cool down in hopefully 2 months, but its such a long time to wait. Hopefully mine will survive as well as yours are

Here goes another quick update. Company should be gone by tomorrow. Seems as I had a hermie on my hands, so I ripped it out of the ground last night. Due to the company I was force to closet my chamber (still haven't worked on concealing the light). Last night I noticed when I first checked on them that the temps arrose to 90F (no higher thank god). So I was like well in the closet, circulating the same air it should be expected. Then before I was about to hit the hay, I checked on them again and still 90F. Then I noticed that my fans somehow got unplugged and that was why it got so hot. Anyways, other than random shit I do to fuck up, Hayden is looking great and even smells better ;) Since I ripped the AI#3 out I have moved my MZ's up closer to the light and both seem to be doing well. Still small and working on their 1st set of fan leaves. As for the remaining AI's I have in soil, they will expire tomorrow. I still have not seen any progress, sadly. This, like I was saying last time, allow an open chamber so I will probably order my next batch of seeds within a few weeks.

ER, I'll send you a male for a female ;)

LT, nah I got reg seeds this time, but I will say it'll be my last. I have decided to drop the perp idea. Like you said it is really hard timing everything unless you have clones or atleast fem seeds.

Z, make sure you get that heat issue taken care of. If you don't the plants will take longer. Try and read up on how heat effects your plants, like after 92F photosenthisis starts shutting down...shit like that. Something I would really recommend that you work on immenitily. Good luck, too!!

Ill get back with some mroe updates and pics. Have a great week!

Over due for an update, so here goes:

Tuesday, September 01, 2009

Current Temp: 81F@tops
Current Humidity: 41%

Hayden: Just got fed and watered tonight. She has been slurping down water. Growing very well, yet still has not darkened to a blue hue though. Some fan leaves are starting to yellow and spot up though. Might have a mild case of spider mites or something. Temps around here has been quite cool though so that might have got rid of them. Highest temp in the past 3 days is 85F in the case. Got some pics and I am still LSTing her with 1 hook/rubber band.

MZ#2: *The one I ripped the shell off* Really looking good. Can't tell a difference from MZ#3 as for that issue. However, this one is a heavy lime color unlike MZ#3. Working on third set of fan leaves now.

MZ#3: Looking great. More emerald green unlike MZ#2 and is currently working on 3-4 set of fan leaves.

Pics:
1. Clear shot of the balls on my hermie.
2. Proof that it had hairs coming out of it.
3. Hanging cluster balls.
4. Hayden's cute cola.
5. Hayden's bottom :O)
6. Current LST method on Hayden.
7. Case shot.
8. MZ#3
9. MZ#2
10. Case shot.
11. Hayden (more recent)
12. Hayden (more recent)
13. Case shot (more recent)

Updates and Questions:

1) I got my carbon filters built, however, I think I might have up to much carbon in it. I don't feel any air coming out when I have it attached outside the case on the back of the fan. But when I set it on my plexiglass in front of the fan it doesn't seem like it works.

2) When I switch to the dwarf's I will need 20/4 schedule so I need to conceal my light a bit more. Any suggestions will be looked into!

3) Do all types of cannabis change colors when they are ready to be cropped?

Ordering the dwarf's in the next few days. Planned to have them in the ground by Sept 15th and Harved in December :) Hoping for a nice Xmas :)

However, on the bad news end I will not have any HQ to smoke on my birthday because of my poor experience pushed back Hayden a bit and my 1st plant was a male. Either way I will have a good time :joint:

Well that wraps me up for now. Can't wait to see the suggestions!

Hey Xander
Sorry it's not gonna happen for your birthday, but it's gonna happen so you can't complain too much :)

Sounds like you need a different fan to run with your carbon scrubber. Check out the cfm for the fan you have by searching for it online, then look for fans the same size with double the cfm. Look also at the noise level which is measured in db's. Compare it to your current fan to see if it's quieter or louder.

Tell us where the light leaks are for advice on lightproofing them.

Don't know what you mean about the plant changing colour. When those white pistils stop coming out the top of the plant it's about time to harvest.

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of posts over the past four weeks but as I said before I have been extremely busy with several different alterations and opportunities in my life. No worries though I did not neglect Hayden or the others while wrapped up in everything. Getting down to business:

Current Temp: 85F@tops
Current Humidity: 68%

Hayden [7 weeks in flower]: Looking good. Buds have a darkened milky color. Some fan leaves are yellowing and withering*. I will be getting my magnifying glass tomorrow, but at a glance it looks like I will be harvesting her at the end of the week. She is on her second week and second day of water only. Buds look dense and yet soft and moist. All hairs remain on in the white color still. I trimmed up most of the dying leaves for the pics, also.

MZ#2: Has turned out to be a bastard, because I have disowned him.

MZ#3: Has turned out to be a bastard, because I have disowned him.

Misc. Updates:
Ordered some new exhaust fans to keep the heat down. I will be replacing the intake with the current exhaust fans. Got the Lowlife seeds in so after Oct 1st I will be running a 20/4 cycle hopefully on both units. I just finished ripping the Mazar's up. I will be getting some more supplies tomorrow such as a magnifying glass and such.

Pics:
[still uploading sorry]
