Drug War Paradox

An amazing read I found the other day when I was searching for info about the DEA stopping the MMJ raids:

Oddly, the many failures of our drug policy protect it. The simple reason is that failure does not make the policy wrong. The myriad of problems that flow directly from these laws protect the Achilles heel. Problems do not make the policy wrong any more than failure. The horrendous implementation of our ‘drug’ policy blinds us. Our so-called ‘drug war’ is unauthorized. That makes it wrong. That is the only thing that really matters.

Having no authority to outlaw personal choice, our legislature and judiciary have turned to the indirect but equally unauthorized control of substances presumed dangerous to the ‘public health’. Control of ones body, mind, life, death, happiness, pleasure and pain does not involve the public and is beyond the purview of any but the unique individual concerned. Our leaders are pursuing a policy that presumes unbelievable, unacceptable and most importantly unauthorized power.

The liberty defined by the Declaration of Independence in 1776 inspired revolutionary patriots a decade before the Constitution was written to “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity”. Suggesting the liberty defined in the Declaration of Independence is different from the liberty mandated by the Constitution denies self-evident truths and the unalienable rights ordained by our creator. Our Constitution does not redefine the liberty for which our forefathers fought, bled and died. To the contrary, our Constitution defines a government, which must secure that liberty. The Declaration of Independence defines the liberty of all men. It has never been amended or canceled.

Egregious lying on a biblical scale, galactic ignorance, bad science, contempt for man, fear of freedom and evil intent are all distractions. They are moot. We must ignore ‘drug war’ failures and all the problems caused. Issues of implementation are irrelevant.

The lack of authority is the overwhelming and undeniable terminal fallacy of prohibitions. The violation of personal liberty is unauthorized to any or all in this nation. That is all that matters. It is all we need to restore personal liberty.

Nice, so true but it does not end there. Forcible taxation to pay for things you do not agree with, fall under the same category. The Majority does not rule in the US (or it shouldn't) That is why we have a constitution and a republican form of limited government. To protect ourselves form the tyranny of the majority. Democracy in not a good form of government it allows people to be persuaded to force others to do their will.

That is our problem their are to many people in this country who believe they have a right to Steal the wealth and property of another in order to give themselves that which they did not earn. Unless we end this mentality of entitlement we can never be truly free.

The war on drugs will never end. It will never end because people believe they have the right to force another to do their will through the ballot box. If 51% of people say we want to give the government $1 to fund abortions then the other 49% are then forced to foot this bill as well even if the idea of abortion is repugnant to them. People are gullible they believe "Refer Madness" propaganda.

As long as we ignore the spirit and the letter of the Constitution we will be saddled with Democracy and eventual Socialism.

A true socialist society may not be as evil as all you righties profess. The problem is that socialist societies in the past have most certainly ended with dictatorship. What comes first is the problem. Seems the dictatorship arrives with the socialist ideal. I don't quite understand this phenomenon. Why can't a socialist society also be ran like a republic, with leaders that are controlled by the public. The prime enemy of socialism is greed, and an unfettered capitalistic society cannot ever be socialist. The mindset of curreent and I'm afraid, future residents in this country are way too selfish to ever allow socialism in it's purest form. the best it can do is a form of quasi-socialism that most surely will end in dictatorship. I believe it was Karl Marx that said it would be at least 200 years before man was ready for true socialism.

It seems the main flaw in a socialist utopia is human nature.

Exactly. Untill man progresses to the spiritual phase of enlightenment, there can never be a true socialist state. Just look at the divide between the left and the right. The right wants to keep all its money (Mainly because the right has most of the money) and the left wants to give everyone all the rights' money. I am of the "opinion" that a re-distribution of wealth would be a good thing, but with the right's mindset, the money would soon be back in their hands anyway. I don't believe in giving money away, but allowing those on the bottom to climb up the ladder a ways, should be job 1.

Med'o'mao any socialist society is Evil, the basic tenants of the philosophy ascertain that, because they always state that THEFT can be justified.

There is no justification for THEFT, the ends do not justify the means. If the means are morally repugnant than the ends are morally repugnant.

You Lefties, so driven by self-centeredness that you consistently adhere to a belief that is repulsive to all of humanity. A belief that a group of people can be empowered to do what one person can not, namely steal from others.
