Another quick post... At what point would one recommend using cal mag/liquid karma or any other nutes? My base soil is Fox Farms Ocean Forest. From what i understand it can run hot although mine are looking pretty good so far. Should i keep giving straight water for another couple weeks or is this bigger one ready to feed?

I live in northern Colorado, the guy at the grow shop did mention that we definitely need cal mag in the water. I've bought some just have yet to use it. I dont currently have a PPM tester which I assume is what would tell me how "hard" my water is? Just a PH meter currently.

This whole tap vs ro and calmag thing can be confusing. I've heard it said that the Ca in tap is usually in a form that isn't very accessable to plants. So you probably do need some calmag.
If you look at ice cubes made with your tap water...if it's totally milky looking...that's from hard water. Mine is mostly clear with ppms at 80.

I was actually looking into the whole tap vs ro last night.. RO filters are a little pricey for me currently so i wont be taking that route. Currently I have a small reservoir that I am filling and letting sit for about 35 hours then using to water the plants. Would you suggest me doing anything differently? Mine are definitely on the cloudier side but a bit of clear too!

Some communities have good water quality reports online. Check into that. If you're under 200 to 250, you should be ok. I've grown in 400ppm water and had problems. RO by necessity.
The letting the water sit thing is for the chlorine to evaporate. Chlorine isn't a problem...your nutes will contain it. But choramine does not evaporate. It also won't really hurt anything. Point is I wouldn't bother with letting it sit. Doesn't do much but warm the water. Overnight is fine if you insist. lol
You are probably ok just using it out of the tap.
Hey you asked when to start nutes. I say just do what other ffof growers do. From the time you go into final pot...wait 3 or 4 weeks before feeding unless you see yellowing.

Which number should i be focusing on for the PPM? I found a report for the closest town ( fort collins, CO) and the highest PPM im seeing is 25. With a few others around 1-5 but nothing even close to 100 or more. When you say RO by necessity is that just if youre working with super high PPM? Or is RO something ALL growers should be looking into?
Thank you a TON for all the replies it really has helped me a ton to understand some of these things. I did give the repotted one a VERY VERY light feeding of cal mag/big bloom. Not sure if it was really even enough to give a proper feeding but I wanted to play it as safe as possible.
When you say to wait 3-4 weeks in final pot.. My current plan is going from the red solo cup, to a 2 gallon, to a 5 gallon. Should I then be waiting until that 5 gallon to feed? Or maybe a couple weeks after the transplant into the 2 gallon start with very very light feedings?
Thinking I would start with calmag. big blood, possible molasses and an organic seaweed. Thoughts? Thanks again man so much.

The number you want should be tds total disolved solids. If it's not listed...just add all those numbers.
The place where I had 400ppm water was rural and farm country. Back in the dust bowl 30s...the locusts were so bad, they ate entire crops. The govt gave the farmers tons of arsenic. Years later...all that arsenic got dumped in local disposal sites and got into ground water. The shit tore up water heaters and metal pipes....so RO was necessary.
Seriously dude...start a little thread in organic gardening. You do not want organic advice from me. Chemicals all the way.

PS I live on the Washington coast with shitloads of rain. My watrt comes out of the tap at 80ppm. If yours is that low...you can forget an RO unit. For a higher production grow...an RO filter will give you more uniform readings. My tap ph changes from summer to winter...if I had an RO filter, it wou;d always be the same. For a small hobby grower like me...I just test and correct as needed.

If im looking at the right things I am coming up with less than 15 ppm. Some are measured in ppb! Seems way too low though.. water report is what im looking at. Also THIS one but doesnt seem to be much difference.
Hahah i think i will for sure be starting a grow log, i dont think i want to stress 100% organic as im sure some nutrients ive already bought wouldnt be considered that!
Seems like mine may just be that low and i have nothing to worry about!

bought some cubes/clonex last night and am going to throw these two cuts im trying to water root in them for better results. Looking into topping more today as I feel one or more is ready...just dont want to mess that up! From what i understand most people top between 3-5 nodes. I assume I would top multiple times every 3-5 nodes throughout veg, giving it a week or two to recover, and not topping too close to flowering.

I suspect that your water district only lists "contaminants"...but don't list common chemicals that are found in water that pose no danger. Safety for drinking is their thing. My community is like that too. Useless to a grower.
Hey...I didn't mean to not ask anyore questions. Just don't know much about organic additives. I am very bare bones...using dry nutrients. The GH Maxi series.
There's been a general shift toward higher K and lower P and limited use of bloom boosters. Don't go crazy buying expensive stuff that often ends up burning the plant. Keep it simple is a very useful adage. I'm running really low ppm in res and am really happy with how clean things are. Kinda stoned...

Ahhh okay. bastards! This is colorado dont you know everyone wants to grow?! haha. Anything else I should look into to try and figure out that PPM or do you think I should invest in a meter?
How are you liking the dry nutrients? One of the guys i watch on youtube used those and they seem pretty easy to work with. Although i already have Fox Farms trio, General Hydro Armor SI, mykos/azos, liquid seaweed, and molasses and I think that is it for now. Thinking I could have even got away with less for sure but I will be feeding light and these nutrients should last a while im hoping.
Have some rockwool cubes soaking currently, going to take those cuts i was trying to water root and stick them in the cubes once i get home!
Just need to do more reading on topping... Would you say topping > fimming? I will be working with the 5x5 tent in the end so figure I could top a few times during veg for more colas.

Lots of guys from CO here. Generally good water I hear. I'll tell you what I'm doing. I know my total ppm number but not how usable they are to plants. So I've been giving a full dosage of calmag...which is working great. No deficiencies.
So from this point, I'll gradually decrease calmag. If I can get good growth and symptom free...with a lesser amount of calmag...then I'll stick with that dose.
Dry nutes are most important if you have no hydro store nearby. I have used them for over a decade and am still happy with it. There are several new brands formulated just for ganja...and I'll probably give one of them a try after I use up my MaxiBloom. I hate to pay shipping on water. The other reason is having a very large op. If you buy dry nutes in a 25 pound bag...it's pretty cheap.

Buy the little GH drops for ph. I've heard of guys using silica as ph up and probably some ph down.

A couple inquiries...
Firstly.. this weird little white spot. Was thinking it could somehow be a sign of powdery mildew. Any ideas? Just noticed today and nothing on any other plants.
Secondly..
Topped this same plant on both growths last week and not seeing much new growth and almost looks like where i topped isnt growing anymore? Hoping im just overthinking and it needs more time!
On the second picture there is the little nub in the middle with the brownish end, thats where i topped If im not mistaken. If anything there is the single new growth but not seeing two new growths as I was thinking.
