Drip Shields in fruiting chambers.. necessary? shrooms, duh

I grew some 10+ years ago and dripshields were the standard in the terrarium... Now, I decided to do it again and upon lots of reading, I noticed most people recommend the Shotgun Fruiting Chamber. There's no mention of dripshields. Do you need one? Or are they necessary only if you go old school with an entirely enclosed fruiting chamber with no fresh air exchange at all?

I was hoping to do an automated one with the fish tank bubblers and all that, but apparently they're not really recommended, especially for novices like myself.

Thanks for any help, RIU! :joint:

Wet spots is one of the easiest vecotrs for contaminants to get in.
It is not a requirement, but you certainly increase your odds of getting a few flushes out before the green monster sets in.
With the proper shotgun, you should use no air bublers etc. convection does the work... which is why there must be holes in the bottom.

thanks for the response ANC! and i'm glad it's from you! yeah i saw with shotgunfc everyone is like "do it exactly like the tek", although it did take quite a while of reading to find out you are supposed to elevate the entire tub off whatever surface it's on - which is why i was always confused about the holes on the bottom. I knocked up 24 jars this weekend with a glove box and everything, so time to play the waiting game :) But thanks again, ANC!
