Drip ring

I just got a GH coco waterfarm a few months ago.My question is it has the 10" Coco lid full of hydrotron and a drip ring.I know in most DWC the drip ring is not needed after roots are in the water,But with this lid im sure its full of roots and by stopping the drip wont that kill the roots in the lid?The lid hangs way down inside the container and in the nute solution.And my roots have came thru the Coco and are in the Water.Any thoughts?
