Dried and cured too fast, help?

Hello everyone,

I just made a batch of shatter with 3 ounces of trim. Used very high-quality butane, hot water bath purge for 20 minutes, then 72+ hours vacuum purge with 80 to 90 Fahrenheit heat. The shatter turned out glass like, but had a horrible bitter taste which I associate with Chlorophyll. Could this be because someone dried and cured the cannabis too quickly? The trim came pretty chopped up but I don’t know how they trimmed it I’m assuming a drum roll trimmer as it waschopped up pretty finely. The process I’m doing has been verified multiple times with the research I’ve done to make sure I am not messing something up while extracting. Could me getting chlorophyll in my shatter be a result of either a ; they didn’t flush properly, or b ; they dried and cured too quickly?

And saying that , I have a bunch more trim from the same plant, that I want to make into shatter but I want to avoid pulling all the chlorophyll into my extract.
Could I dry the weed out more on a table for a few days or so to get more chlorophyll out? Not too sure if it’s maybe my process or the supply of weed coming in but I have seen many many videos of people using trim(and grinding their weed before) and still getting nice quality shatter.

I have 7 ounces of trim to make into shatter (from the plant that gave me crappy tasting shatter) but I wasn’t sure if drying and curing it more would help me? Any input would be awesome. Thanks roll it upFam!

Maybe the trim has all the big fan leafs in before it is ground down and gave to you, that would be my thoughts

Ok thanks! That would be pretty crappy if they were adding fan leaves to their shake for more weight , I’m hoping that’s the reason

I’ve actually only done 3 batches this far… I was rosin pressing for about 4-5 years and got bored of it so I wanted to try my hand at BHO. I did one run on some 6 year old bunk weed that wasn’t flushed properly and that batch was horribly black and almost not smokeable (unless you have nothing hehe) but then I did the GSC and got really dark almost black shatter. Then I did a run with some Alien OG trim (same company as the GSC trim) and that one was pretty black also but much lighter on the grassy/crappy taste but still not really smokeable. Ask any other questions, I don’t mind explaining my whole process to try and narrow it down. I know quality in=quality out but I was hoping to practice with a few cheaper batches of trim or even cheap nug runs in case I mess up.

Generally when it is black or dark,
It is either really old trim or loads big fan leafs ground up to fine....

I am going to run a oz of stardawg today or tomorrow i will get sum pictures...

I think it is down to material and not your process

I believe you are right about the fan leaves being in the trim. It smelled pretty green and grassy when I opened the bag up to take a sniff.
On my first run I did 2 cans of butane through 3 ounces of trim (GSC) and on the second run I did 3 cans of butane through 3.5 ounces (GSC) and it was clear at the end for both ways it looked to me. Froze my extraction tube full of trim for 24 hours also. Is that necessary?

I hear people doing it,
personally i dont freeze my material..
Just grind the buds and 1 tin per ounce freeze the tin of gas for 30 mins or so before...
Il get a few pics once i make sum again i just deleted my old pics all other day..

I got 8g of dab out of 1 oz of stardawg

Oh nice, was that from bud or trim? Either way that’s sweet. I just talked with a buddy who I’m getting 4-6 ounces of outdoor bud off him so I’m going to try this weekend at making some shatter from that and see what happens.

Was an oz of dawg bud,
Im just waiting to get hold of 2 from a pal to make sum with 1 of them..
Il have my trim around mid july to make sum off trim usually lovely the fresher it is

Nice, I will hopefully have a good blast this weekend, I’ll try and post pictures from the crap batch and my one this weekend . Found out I can’t legally buy any alcohol over like 70~ish percent so I’m not sure if I can winterized and clean up the first batch. Any ideas what else I can use? I live in Ontario so kind of hard to get certain items.

I saw something that might help with dirty extractions. Ethanol extract the nasty bho, you can make shatter with the oil apparently if you want, or just use it. The oil you get looks super clean in the pics.

I have this sad amount of weed from my last grow and I'm blasting it to get the most I can. If I screw it up ^^^ might help.

Yeah I think I want to try the ethanol winterization and see what happens. Just not sure what to use for my ethanol. Ontario is locked down all their booze like crazy here and hard to get high proof alcohol’s here to try with. Alberta is the only province I know of that sells it but won’t ship it to Ontario .

You can buy whatever hard liquor and distill it yourself I guess. If you can catch it you should be able to reuse the ethanol for a long time with just adding to it some.

My big plan is 1 part bho to 15 parts everclear 190proof.
Heat on my pressing plates until 190ish catch all that distilate.
Redistill the stuff I just made at a low temp 120ish? to get the ethanol out. Catch and reuse the ethanol.
Enjoy my cleaned up oil:)

I still need to get a way to catch the vapor though. No budget for this one.

Yeah I don’t have much budget for more equipment as I just bought my stuff for BHO lmao, I wanted to do it safely as possible so I invested in the green machine extractor and it works sooooo nicely. I’m so happy I can start the can of butane and walk away while it dispenses. Only alcohol I found was called Spirytus Gdanski It’s a polish vodka with 76% proof. Highest I can purchase, this should work??
