A friend wants to get a collective (Not store) just a small group of patients and caregivers.

Where is and has any one registered a not for profit mutual beneficial collective for free, (No lawyer) ?

I know a club that will register you for $350 including all paperwork.
However my friend wants to just fill the paper and walk into the sec of state and file for $15.

Your friend just wants to open a collective without talking to a lawyer? No matter how small, not a good idea.

I made a post that will be probably the closet thing you will get to the papers you need online. It is for sacramento but gives you a general idea. There is still more to it though and skipping the lawyer is a BAD idea!

I know having a lawyer in general is a good idea, but why does he need one just to file and turn in the paperwork?

so he can legally counsel you on whether its a good idea or not.

My lawyer sucked and did not do all the paper work.
He cost $3500 and turned into a prick slightly after the work was done that he spent a few hours on.

I would get your own collective then pay a lawyer to look over your FINISHED work.

I thought it was your friend doing it...? And to find a lawyer and have him do paperwork in 10 days is pretty fast! doesn't sound right.
