Double Ended HPS vs Single Ended HPS Heat Output

Hey! were finally legal here and ill be firing my lamps back up. I have a simple question I cant seem to find a basic yes or no to. "Does The Double Ended HPS run HOTTER than the Single Ended? I dont mind installing a AC unit in the room however height is a concern with 7' ceiling....

Really thinking about using (4) of the 1000w DE..... im not a fan of vented hoods due to some research about PAR loss etc.... "convince me otherwise"

Thanks ;)

Basically yes.

DE hoods fixtures run hotter which is why epap and gavitas have the tiny open clamshell hood versus the huge hunk of reflector.

Awesome thanks for the quick response! So thats why all those gavitas are "open hoods" to not trap the heat I assume? I was just looking at these Adjust-A-Wing Avenger Double Ended Reflector super pricey tho... anyways thanks again!

That's correct, small and shallow open hoods to allow heat dissipation.

With DE fixtures a/c is important but what most people find out is ceiling height is paramount. The intensity of light almost always requires 9ft or higher ceiling unless you go with 600w de or dial back your 1000w de to 60%.

If you're only talking 4 fixtures I would check out ebay for "affordable" de hoods or complete setups. They will be the cheapest and you can always upgrade down the line after you get through a harvest or 2.

Honestly I have ran de phantoms side-by-side with single ended hps xtrasun digital ballasts w/ radiant 8 open reflectors, both cranked to super and the single ended outperformed the de.

though I know a few guys who swear by their epaps and gavitas.

now I flower with cmh, 12x 315's in a 12x15 room. 315 ballasts off ebay and philips greenpower bulbs.

and i'm hitting 1.4g/watt.
