"Dont Mess It Up, Ris", My First Indoor Attempt - Gelato 33

Whats up, I'm new to the forum and just getting into growing with a purpose (used to just toss seeds an water in my back yard). I decided to grow 10 plants this season, 2 were subjected to my rink-e-dink hydro attempt. Needless to say I’m down to 8. I have never grown in this county and was expecting a 12plant limit, its 6. I have decided to grow 6 plants… My goal would be to keep 2 Mothers permanently and the rest goes to my chest piece. They were all started from clone at the same time.

Any Advice, Tips or even plain out stop that kind of input would be much appreciated.

I have my current inventory below:

Strain: Gelato 33

  • 80"X80"X78" Ipower Grow Tent
  • 2x Briignite 80w (~ 800w) Led Grow Lights 3x3 Coverage
  • 2x Briignite 60w (~ ??) Led Grow Lights 2x2 Coverage
  • 6” Inline 400cfm With Carbon Filter Exhaust, 10ft Ducting
Soil/Amendments:
  • Ff Ocean Forest
  • Mother Earth Nitro Bat 5-3-1
  • Kellogg Organic Garden Soil
  • Perlite W/ No Added Fertilizer
  • Spray On Neem Oil
Sensors:
  • Digital Temp – Air, Soil, Water
  • Digital PH – Soil & Water
  • Digital Humidity

I wouldn't use that Kellogg soil myself. You'd be better off just sticking with the FFOF. That Kellogg is mostly wood and chicken manure. The Garden Soil variety is not really for indoor container plants either. With Kellogg you want their indoor potting mix which is a peat based blend and doesn't have all the manure in it. I'd still just go 100% FFOF. I've used several different Kellogg products and wasn't impressed. There's a reason it's so cheap.

I wouldn't use that for an indoor grow in containers. It's mostly wood and chicken manure. It stinks as well. I've used that exact product. There is no peat or perlite in it. Just wood and chicken manure with extremely small amounts of a few amendments tossed in probably just to make the ingredients look better.

"Aged recycled forest products, aged arbor fines, composted chicken manure, bone meal, alfalfa meal, oyster & dolomite limes (as pH adjusters), bat guano, worm castings, and kelp meal"

You can give it a go in that stuff but I sure wouldn't.

I've never used it but if that's what's in those bags I'd agree with xtho.

Good decision.

I didn't use it for weed but for a couple 25 gallon outdoor flower planters. Nothing grew very good in it. It would dry out and then it would be hard to water as it was mostly just shredded wood. It was so inexpensive compared to other products but I found out why.

It explains some of my issues so far. Now I’m taking these from outback to a tent in my upstairs office. I’ll be transplanting from 5gal outdoor to 20gal indoor since they started to flower an have a bug problem, then there is the whole legality thing.

That's good. You're plants will be much happier in the FFOF. If you did a side by side with a handful of each you'd instantly see what I mean by Kellogg being all wood.

I looked at it this morning an can now see the Ocean Forest through the Kellogg Trees.

i hate neem oil. it stinks like (and makes thing taste like) rotten thai food.
if you have a pest problem, you'd be better off mixing up a little hot sauce and dawn in a gallon of water and spraying them with that.
i really like spinosad, as long as you're not in flower yet. 3 to 4 treatments 3 days apart will kill any pest i've ever had to deal with.
if you are in flower, i'd stick to the hot sauce/dish soap solution, and then spray them with plain water the next day to wash the excess off, and repeat that 3 or 4 times, about 3 days apart. that gives any eggs time to hatch, and wipes out the older ones so they can't lay any more

I will be completely replacing the soil as i transplant them to their new homes (5gal-outdoor to 20gal-indoor), this is my first time using Neem Oil (and last). It is a stank ill remember for sure. Thank you sir.

You're gonna need a lot more light than that for the space. 80 watts of mid-grade LED doesn't cover a 3x3 space, not does 60 watts cover 2x2. You're going to want to shoot for around 35-40 watts/square foot.

Just finished putting everything up and noticed it was a bit sparse. I added my 4ft T8 but not sure how much that helps.

What would be your recommendation for mid range lighting? i cant spend too much but i also dont want to gimp the grow too much.
I can use half of the tent, not sure if thats going to help as its a huge waist of the space.

i don't think you have enough lights for flower....in a 4 X8 tent im running 900 (actual) watts of cobs...and getting good results. thats not quite 30 watts per sq. foot.
your tent is about the same sq. footage, anything under 800 actual watts and you won't get very good results.
ignore those equivalent to numbers, they're meaningless bullshit designed to trick those who don't know any better. this isn't set in stone, but a very useful rule of thumb is that you need about 50 watts of h.i.d. lighting per square foot, and 25-30 watts of led lighting per square foot...anything less will not produce to your potential space

I switched to sesame oil instead of neem. It's effective and is used in multiple commercial insecticides. It's also non-toxic and edible.

Ok, thanks to all of the help i've gotten so far, I have the pest problem under control as of now. I have none visible on plants and have a full change of soil from Kelloggs.

Soil Problem: Done
Pest Problems: Done
Light Problem: Work in Progress
Layout of Tent: dont like what it is just yet but will be moving things around today.
