Dont Make This Mistake

So I bought the best hydrofarm 1000 watt system that my local grow shop sells. The hood has venting capability but I don't have it set up for that. I have one thowie in a converted sauna with 20 ladies, I have ac and thought I had good air circulation. A while back the tops of my plants started yellowing and I haven't been able to figure out what's wrong. I was away for about 10 days and had someone looking after them. I got back and they were pretty fucked up, lots of dieback/yellowing. This was my mistake:

I didn't take the god damned glass off the underside of the hood, thus creating an oven above my plants. My thermometer was on the wall and temps seemed ok, but the temp directly below the light was too high.

Advice: if you buy a hood with venting capability and chose not to utilize it take the fucking glass off so you get air circulation around the bulb. Otherwise, heat builds up in the hood and turns it into a fucking furnace.

Is this for real?

What's wrong with my post?

I talked to a friend who knows a lot about indoor growing and this was his diagnosis. Does it sound like bullshit or something?

For all you skeptics out there in stonerland, that shit I said is legit. After taking the glass pane off my hood, the temp of the room decreased by about 2-3 degrees and even more in close proximity to the light. So, looks like the nube does have something to offer.

I'm sticking to my guns and I think it makes perfect sense. The air in the hood gets super heated increasing the temp of the hood/light thereby causing the hood/glass pane to radiate more heat, in all directions, than it would if the air was moving inside and outside of the hood. The guy I who told me this shit is REALLY knowledgable. He used to own two growshops in Northern Cali. But, if I you think I'm spouting a bunch of BS I'd like to hear about it.

no the 'nube' does not have anything to offer. when you get a reflector/hood that's enclosed you NEED to ventilate it, that's fucking common sense. You are lucky your bulb didn't burn out or worse.

Air cooled hoods really need air...well....to be cooled...hook up a fan with ducting...put your glass back in...and see what happens. Nice post though..it is a good thing experiment

i run my 6 inch cylinders unvented in the summer. they never die.

I know it degrades their lifespan, inside that bulb it already run quite hot, around 1200 degrees. Adding to the fact that you have it in an enclosed case with only two holes and no wind. I'd studied the effects on heat, and different substances, including glass. the hotter those lights get they create weak points in the glass, now it does take a LONG time for the light to fail under any condition of heat, but it sure as hell doesn't help. My uncle works at a FAB at AMD, he testes what temperature different substances break down at to try and find the breaking point of different substances found in a cpu. He offered to test glass one time when his FAB was undergoing a scheduled inspection and they had to stop production of their tests.

my bulbs are trashed every 9 months ask me i think the bulbs need changed every 6 months the tube is designed to get hot

Yes it is, but it's also designed to be cooled, that's why other hoods do not have the glass, because it allows the heat to vent but leaving the glass on creates a heat trap.

I dont think its BS ,but how close is the light to the top of the plants?Do you have fans blowing in the grow area?You say you have ac in there,but do you have fresh air coming in and exhausting out? PIXS would help. PEACE
