Doing It Wrong...Still Worked

Like the overzealous newb I am....When I started to grow (in soil) I was so amped to be growing I thought why not try a hydro grow too.

In hindsight...I would never do this again or suggest this to anyone. Hydro has a lot of variables to consider....and maintain.

But like I said...I was new and full of go-get-it-ness.

I built my bubbler and put a couple plants in there. Why is this a freestyle DWC? Because my daring ass decided to do the grow with only a ph meter (no calibration fluid), FoxFarm nutes (I even used the soil GrowBig instead of the kind for Hydro) and 4 sets of crossed fingers.

No PPM meter...no EC meter.

With no meters I was afaraid to overfeed or cause a nute lock out. So I filled my res and let the plants have at it for 2 weeks. They did ok. I changed res, upped the nutes a bit and let em go. Still grew...still did ok.

After a few weeks...now Im adding a gallon of water every few days since the plants are sucking it up fast. Not topping off nutes...just water.

I know this is NOT THE WAY IT SHOULD BE DONE. But this kind of shows that marijuana is pretty hearty....and that sometimes....things can be over analyzed. I know how to do things correctly now. But since I started this way...I wanted to finish it this way.

Next go round...everything will be in place.

The big bush in the background is one of the plants in the bubbler.

Looks like you knew what you were doing after all.

I think most of us have a green thumb.
We just need to use common sense and trust our intincts.

BIG ups, bro. Big ups!

It also goes to show that using some RESERVE and letting things play out is a good approach with this plant. I'm IMPRESSED that you took the cautious route with yer nutes as you waded into this..not KNOWING where you actually stood but having a GOOD IDEA that by taking it EASY things would work out. I freak out on this board damn near everyday and have to hold my tongue because I see so many folks shoving MASS QUANTITIES of nutes into their plants...often plants that from their pics...are ALREADY STRESSED TO THE MAX from the "love" given to 'em to that point...and the poster is STILL talking about HAMMERING em with some high numbered fert in hopes of a High Times centerfold harvest. NOT!

Anyway..not to hijack yer thread...but yeah...I'm impressed! For a "noob"...you've learned much along the way and MANY, MANY folks here could benefit from stepping back a bit and really looking in on what can happen if you take it SLOW and STEADY!

Its always easy to rush to fix something before its actually broken. Im now a firm believer in "Letting the plants tell you".

When they need something...they'll let you know. If you watch them daily....you'll see whats happening and whats not happening.

I wont go so far to say growing is easy...but with an understanding of a few basic things...and erring on the side of caution...anyone should be able to get a grow done.

Glad that you saw the point of my post and didnt blast me for freestyling my DWC grow.

Appreciate the words, BTDT and Mid.
