This is my first grow. I've seen a lot of people rush into growing or they end up with a couple of plants somehow and try to start from there. 99% of them ran into problems immediately or ended up with a very sub par result.
As I embark on my indoor quest for glory, I want to make sure I do it smart and right the first time. The last thing I want to do is have to redesign my closet after a failed attempt. I don't want to half-ass anything. I appreciate any advice or input from anyone who wants to help me out. This website has already helped me out quite a bit from reading everything, so i decide to make a thread. I think it will be cool to keep track of progress too.
So here is what I'm working with:
Approx: 2' x 4' closet 8.5' ceiling w/ attic access.
i plan on growing 2 plants in this space and I want to try to get as high a yield as I can.
This is what my plan is so far for equipment and set up:
Lights: 6" cool tube 400w mh/hps hanging from ceiling. Im interested in the cool tube w/ intercooler set up from hydroponicsgroup.com but I'm curious as to how effective the built in fan is vs. using an inline fan w/ a standard cool tube. I also have a 4' 6 bulb T5 fluorescent light panel that I'm going to mount on the wall to give a little extra light to the sides of the plants. The closet will be covered in Mylar on all sides.
Ventilation: I plan on having the exhaust for the room go through a 4" charcoal filter connected to a 4" circular flange in the attic access panel with an inline fan mounted on the attic side. (Any advice on how many cfm the fan should be for that amount of space?) the intake for the room I am going to have coming through a hole in the wall at the bottom of the room. It will intake air from the room located directly behind my closet. Do I need to have an intake fan as well? Or will the exhaust create enough of a vacuum to draw fresh air in?
As for the cool tube, the intake will come from another hole higher up on the same wall and will exhaust through the attic access panel through a six inch circular flange much like the room exhaust does. Any advice on these ideas is much appreciated. I plan on having two small oscillating fans in the room one up high and one down by the base of the plants.
Growing medium: I've been looking into an earth box to grow from. Anyone who has used one of these I would love to hear how you're experience was or whether or not you recommend going that route. This is a link to the setup I was thinking of:

I would be using the container set up only, not the fertilizer that comes with it. I was thinking about using a coco/soil mix. I haven't really gotten that far yet so advice on soil/nutes/etc. would be very appreciated.
Im going to pick up a couple of clones when the time comes, but I'm not putting anything in there until it is fully operational and ready. I want to go with higher yielding strain probably indica or a hybrid. I want to get as much as I can from 2 plants. I will be posting pictures shortly.
