Does Topping Result in Larger Yield?

Hey guys, I was wondering if topping a plant a few weeks before flowering would be a good idea and result in a larger yield. I have an indica plant that is already very short and fat and I am wary of cutting the top because I don't want to hurt her. I feel like if I just leave it be the main cola will be super dense with lots of bud but I have heard that topping can increase yield substantially. Any thoughts?

In my experiences, I've found topping to greatly increase yield. You're essentially allowing more of the light to reach the plant = more yield.

I topped this plant and it gave me 6 colas vs. 1. Is it more yeild? Ive seen people on the forums who have pulled a pound from one plant without topping. If you are in small spaces top them before their 12 inchs and the will tripple in size. If you dont top them some grom 6 feet tall indoors!?!

Do not top a plant that far into flowing. (In my opinion its really useless but then again f%$# it and see what happens. Post some pics of the outcome)

With a strain that responds well to topping, it usually works nicely to top twice. We top our plants, leaving two nodes. The two shoots on the top node jump up the most because they are closest to the light but the bottom two grow a little as well. We top the two shoots from the top node, leaving a node on each. By the time the four new shoots on top get going, at least one of the bottom ones will catch up. This makes for 5-6 colas.

I heard ya man, your not into flowering yet. Id go ahead and top if you have at least 3 weeks more to go veg, then switch them to 12/12 and you will definitely benefit somewhat, I topped, pruned and low stress trained these that are about to go into my flowering room

I think your best bet would be to tie the main cola down. To the side at a 90 degree angle or a little less. I've done this countless times. You've got to be real gentle and if the stem is concrete hard then it's too late I do this on new growth before it hardens up. You could also try turning your plants to get equal growth on all sides. You can checkout my little grow to see what I mean. Good luck and happy growing

When potheads read posts they read only everyother word...were lazy! And when most of us read Top . . .Flowering . . . Bigger yield.

Thats why we all thought differently.

I top my indicas and some give me 8 kolas! If your worried then I would just top a couple of your plants and keep a journal. Take note as to what happens to the topped ones vs the others and so on and so forth. Have fun. I grow em 12 inches, top em and put em in the flowering room. They usually get 4 feet tall with LOTS of stinky, sticky, icky lol

Yes. We've always vegged under fluorescents. With weaker bulbs and ones where the light is spread out further, it can be more difficult to get the lowest shoots to reach canopy level. The top shoots will have no problem, though.
