Does Anyone Remember Thai Stick?

I've had a bunch of Thai.

Phenomenal sativa. Low yield. The buds are about as thin as they could be. A couple bags out of the Volcano will give you the spins.

The Chocolate Thai cross is great, too. Thicker buds. Dark coloring. Very tasty.

I'm not a know it all, but I lived in Thailand in the early 70's. Thai stick is not laced/dipped. It is small nugs, tied around a slice of bamboo, with bamboo thread (shaved from the cane). The potency varies from killer to indescribable... there are definitely different grades. The legendary stories most have told and heard have been based on the use of the commercial grades. One has to travel into remote areas and meet the ganga Drs to secure the "top of the heap" stuff.

Except for possibly the most southern parts of the US, the season is not long enough to allow the landrace Thai strains to finish outdoors before cold weather ends the season. Even along the Gulf Coast, the season gets cut a month or so short. Growing indoors is challenging because it takes as long as 20+ weeks to finish and it's hard to keep that strain under 10'-12' tall when it lives that long. It's not an easy strain to grow even if it was a quick finisher.

But, if you're up to the challenge, the Attitude carries landrace strains: Acapulco Gold, Colombian, Thai, etc. I think the name of the company is "World of Seeds".

As much as I love and miss Thai, it's not worth the trouble to me. If you would like to grow something that delivers a similar high and potency, look for strains that are high in THCV. Just go to The Attitude website and type in THCV in the search window. Higher levels of THCV is what separates the equatorial strains from the rest.

thai stick is a method of presentation of the weed, not a particular strain. it's just weed tied to a stem, that's it! the thais, which are a very friendly people (been there many times while in the air force) explained this to me. any breeder selling thai-stick as a particular strain, is not someone you want to deal with....

Silky is spot on. They're called Thai stick because they are wrapped around a stick. I would truly like to see a "Thaistick" plant... no trim work!!!

But, in my experience, there was very little detectable difference in the genetic properties of product from one ganga Dr to the next. The taste, buzz, appearance was very similar throughout the Golden Triangle area (where I was). The only exception being that there were, as I previously stated, higher grades. There was gold and red colored Thai herb that was just more intense. But all the ganga Drs grew it and sold it. Even with the higher grades, the taste was the same with a slight edge.

Silky is waaayyy right about something else too... The Thai people are the sweetest, friendliest people I met in Asia by a pretty fair margin. I spent time in six different countries during that period. The Thai people are a very special breed.

not true if you look at the post I posted here in 2009 you'll see that someone grew seeds directly out of a thai stick bud and it was a heavy sativa (this is consistent with all accounts of thai stick, everyone reports the same stringly sativa look, the only reason it doesn't give you such a high is because it's typically dipped in opium.

oh yeah, thai stick baby! I thought I was quite hooked up when I first got it back in the late seventies. It was so exotic!

I have seen literally thousands of thai sticks at one time, in a ganga drs hut. I have personally smoked from hundreds of different thai sticks. Thai sticks are not dipped in opium unless it is done by the individual user who purchased the stick. I see that a lot.. it is a myth created by people who just can't believe herb could be that devastatingly potent. The commonly available commercial variety is two to three times as strong as any Colombian Gold I have smoked... and I'm old enough and spent enough time around Miami in the seventies to have smoked quite a bit of high quality CG.

It is totaly different than your high grade pot these days, Oh man I'm drewlling just thinking about it, the last time I even seen it was in the mid 80's I'd roll me a pinner and me and my girlfriend would go to a club in palm springs ca., the second I'd step in I would scan everything with total confidence as if I own the place, oh my God totaly awesome feeling I even scouted for the table full of the most prettiest most stuck up ladys and made a b-line straight for them and totaly dominated the whole evening with all 6 ladys including mine, Awesome. Totaly different than your pot now days.Sorry I only know you can buy the seeds and grow them yourself, thats what i'm gonna do. Peace

thai sticks are alot more complex than that i read about them i an article in skunk magazine and it tells you how to make them what u do is tke a bunch of trim and extract the thc with water then with almost pure isopryll alcohol, simmer with electric stove only. then ur left with a syrup after a few other steps then u soak ur buds in the hash oil take em out roll them in kief if you want then tie them around a stick and leave them in a paper bag for about 30 days. I'm missing alot of steps but anyways u want to use high sativa cuz indica thai sticks will give u an allday+ couch lock its recommended to use the stringy buds off the lower branches of the sativas. so pretty much every description here is wrong.
keep an eye out in my journal if you want the recipe on how to make them its very time consuming like a whole day of work
