Do you think they are ready?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could give me their imput. This is the first time I have ever grown and it is almost time for me to harvest my first plant. I took some pictures of a plant I think is ready but I am not 100% sure. Below are the pictures of the tricomes what do you think? Thank you, Kristina

How long have they been flowering? It depends a lot on the strain, actually. And your own preferences. I like to go for about 10% amber myself, and I don't see any in your sample (small sample though). The trichs will go from clear -> cloudy -> amber. Yours look mostly clear from what I see. 7 weeks?

In the above picture you can see the trichome heads fairly well (not all trichomes have heads, look for the ones that do). Notice how the little ball is small and clear? As the flower gets closer to ripening, the ball will start to enlarge. When it is mature, the ball with turn an opaque whitish color. When the THC inside starts to degrade to CBN the ball will turn a rusty amber.

When to harvest is a personal choice. Most people prefer a bit of amber, but there is no one "right" answer. My advice would be to pull your first harvest at about 90% cloudy/10% amber and go from there. If still it's a bit racy for you, try letting it go longer next time. If it's too sedating, harvest earlier. As you become more experienced with growing you may decide that you want to let some strains develop more amber than other strains. Some people harvest plants at different levels of ripeness to have a daytime, evening and bedtime smoke.

There's a bunch of pictures and information about timely picking in the harvesting and curing section. I keep the sticky resin covered microscope on the shelf personally, and use a less scientific way similar to fdd2blk (one of the stickys in the forum harvesting: a tutorial).
