Do you get what you pay for with seeds ?

Hi all,
With my first grow I decided to get the most expensive seeds I could find, which were from Sensi, NL5xHaze (£180!!!10xfem).

I'm on my second grow now and trying a much cheaper Bay11, I think they may have even been thrown in for free. Already they seem much chunkier and faster growing than the expensive seeds.

Genetics do matter, but not as much as people seem to think. My first grow ever was from some bag seeds from some pretty mediocre bud. The bud that was in the bag the seeds came from didn't even compare to what I grew, using the bag seeds. It was night and day.

And Amos Otis, every time I see your avatar I think of Earl that used to post here with his hydro space shuttle lol. He hasnt been around in a long time, so I guess it's fair game lol

You get exactly what you pay for when you order seeds.

You click on 5 Bubbledungle Ding Kush and that is what you get.

I only have experience with a couple breeders, I've found the price doesn't always equal quality, but once you find a keeper you can just keep a mother then it's definitely worth it. I think bay 11 is from Ken's granddaddy purp, So should be pretty solid genetics.

Most expensive and only on your 2nd grow....?
the questions goota be asked what you gonna be doing on your 10th grow ...or your 38th ...?
yes you are buying great genes but can you appreciate them when you are still making dumb ass mistakes
typical of any grower under his 5th grow? ...educated or not...?

of more concern ....is because you are buying expensive non popular seeds, they have been sitting on the shelf, fridge longer than most cheaper strains
by as much a 3-5 years, these are then highly marginal seeds and require special germing such as scarifying the seed first.

But I do give credit when its due, and you have done well, but risky.... but well..
keep up the good work

high price doesn't always equal high quality IMO
i think it'd ludicrous the price some people charge for plant seeds myself. and sort of sad the ones who pay it.

i stick around $5-$10 per bean.. and for the most part have been quite satisfied.
if i paid more, i think it'd be harder to find sufficient value (have to be some amazing -shroom like- pot ;) )

Sensi seeds sucks I gave them many try do to their overrated reputation my best recommendation stay away from them.
Get some seed from Mr.Nice, Subcool or T.H.Seeds there you will get what you pay for.

Mostly yes. I have gotten bargains with seeds but overall if you buy cheap do not expect top product. It is a gamble with the odds favoring the more expensive beans.

Sensi has a bad rep btw. Their Maple Leaf Indica is still the same but other strains seems to have been diluted or lost according many reports. They got busted a few years ago and seem to have lost some of their original stock. The breeding is outsourced too from what I have read.

The bag seed example is somewhat wrong. The outdoor illegal grows do not show what the genetics are capable of with loving care. They often treat the plants and the dryed buds like shit. That does not mean the genetics were shit if you got buds that were uncured, slammed around, compressed, pesticide sprayed, early picked etc.

I have yet to grow anything from TH Seeds I was impressed with. Most have been a letdown.
Going to try their Critical Hog soon, but I don't expect much from it.

I'm growing MLI right now and so far so good. Only a few weeks in flower, but I am happy with what I'm seeing. Definitely indy, definitely ibl based on how damn slow they are off the bat, and at least in veg very uniform. Only have one in flower now, have two others in veg, so we will have to see the end product.

I think there are good lines that are cheaper and some that are expensive. This is my first go with Sensi so that's my limited experience and I'm not even finished yet.

On average, I probably buy packs in the $80 range. The ones Amos listed are frequently praised and on my try list as well due to what I've seen if that's what you are looking for.

I always think Amos avatar is Brodie growing up into an old pervert.

I agree to a point, if I want something from Jamaica it would cost me more money to go to Jamaica and find the seeds than it would for someone else who has traveled there to get it.

Same goes for states if I want something from the east coast I wouldn't want to travel there to go get it. Workers deserve to get paid for working and consumers should be given a reasonable price. The reasonable price thing is where we are now, what is a good reasonable price and I would say 10 bucks a seed.

Just like most of you, I have tried many different breeders and there are many more I want to try. Good genetics vary in price, but a lot are just ridiculously over priced marketing gimmicks. Bodhi, DNA/RP are my favorites...but just as mentioned before, practice with some freebies if possible (bag seeds or gifted seeds) and eventually make all you want for free. Good luck and be safe.
